Well, the Mithra's gotten a nice overhaul in terms of the mesh now being lower poly AND symmetrical. Prior to opening her up and gutting her this morning, she was at 38k. I cut the mesh in half and dealt with a lot of replicated groups that I hadn't noticed before. That dropped the overall poly count down to about 36k. After that, I found a few issues with the forward pulse batteries and defiant-style battery mount section [for lack of a better name] and thus sorted issues there, and worked a little magic with everything [then dropping the polies to 31k]. Once I've used my new favorite optimize tool after adding the things I need and getting rid of things I don't, I suspect she'll be somewhere around the 22-25k range, if we're lucky. I'll keep you all posted. No screen shots now, as there's really not anything noticeably new to show. Oh, and also, the mid-section secondary hull [with all those beveled detail things] is going to get re-done and the new skills I have will be put to use in cleaning it all up. Also, there's some newer, cleaner phaser arrays on the horizon if I can manage it.. which will also severely drop the poly count by quite a lot. Today should be pretty productive, after I run a few errands. Stay tuned, folks. :]
