They look fine from this angle!

Every time I look at this, the attention to detail amazes me more and more! A very well deserved cookie for you :D

seconded.
but what are those vent things for??
they look cool and bring more detail into this ship, but I don't yet realize what they are for!

To look cool xD

Looks great, The grates could be... Backup or secondary buzzard inlets, or just some kind of emitter that aids it's cloak-craft sensor, or "Maneuvering Impulse", giving it quicker accel or agility.

...Probably not, but the number I get(379.6m) could be considered ?original intent,? a term that I think I will be using from now on, and ?canon? be damned.

It would just make it super agile.

Note that the inserts sweep forward, so the impulse "flow" for lack of a better term would be facing backwards. There's also a second pair of impulse manifolds that I'll be adding to the aft of the saucer, and I'll be re-doing these vents at some point, as they're actually crap when I look at the wireframe.

New pic. Been experimenting with lightrigs and such. See what I mean by "a lot of work"? There's so much to do to clean this ship up it's not even funny. Did ya know it's not even symmetrical? I didn't even notice it. So yeah. Lots of work ahead... in any case, I like this render. :D

*edit*

I'll give myself some credit, though... I do adore these nacelles. xD

Meh. Who cares if its not symmetrical! If it's awesome (which it is) then it really doesn't matter!

Wow, thanks a tonn, guys! :D

Got the transparency texture to work! You'll have to zoom in rrreeeaaaallll close to see it well. Wish I knew how to add some kind of deflector glow so you could see it better... oh well. Have fun!

edit:
I may also do a totally different grating pattern tonight, so it'll be more visible and cleaner. Maybe, maybe not. Depends on how things go.

Gorgeous.  I really think the idea of the vents could be applied better if they were slightly smaller and above the pulse weapons on the leading edge of the saucer.  Rapid fire pulses with vents for cooling maybe.  Also, I really like the area around the bridge back to the area that looks like an impulse engine?

Well, the Mithra's gotten a nice overhaul in terms of the mesh now being lower poly AND symmetrical. Prior to opening her up and gutting her this morning, she was at 38k. I cut the mesh in half and dealt with a lot of replicated groups that I hadn't noticed before. That dropped the overall poly count down to about 36k. After that, I found a few issues with the forward pulse batteries and defiant-style battery mount section [for lack of a better name] and thus sorted issues there, and worked a little magic with everything [then dropping the polies to 31k]. Once I've used my new favorite optimize tool after adding the things I need and getting rid of things I don't, I suspect she'll be somewhere around the 22-25k range, if we're lucky. I'll keep you all posted. No screen shots now, as there's really not anything noticeably new to show. Oh, and also, the mid-section secondary hull [with all those beveled detail things] is going to get re-done and the new skills I have will be put to use in cleaning it all up. Also, there's some newer, cleaner phaser arrays on the horizon if I can manage it.. which will also severely drop the poly count by quite a lot. Today should be pretty productive, after I run a few errands. Stay tuned, folks. :]
