Gene Roddenberry's "Andromeda Ascendant" Ship Pack
« on: February 05, 2009, 09:45:34 AM »
Well, I've been a bit bored recently and I started this and with MR_JOHN's permission, here it is!

Ships are:
Crimson Sunrise (Sunny)
Million Voices (Milla)
Pax Magellanic (Jill)
Twelve Centuries (12)

And I've got 3 more on the way (including a reworked Andromeda). :D

Are you planning on fixing the model and textures of the Andromeda?

The original was good but seemed rushed.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

I plan on something. I want to get the others done before I focus all my energies on Andromeda.

I remember this show! Hercules was the ships captain!

Yes! Then it got a bit silly near the end where he became a Paradine which can do things with time nd space and then there was a silly story about Seefra being Tarn Vedra bla de bla...the last episode was good. :P

For this pack, I'm going to do a preview video. Mainly because I feel like doing one for once.

I agree with Billz that the models need some work. MR_JOHNs works were great in their day, but theyre pretty sub-par now.
Also, im curious as to how youre going to hardpoint this. There was an extremely lengthy thread on FF forums way back in the day on how someone was going to impliment an accurate hardpoint of it. Of course now we've got the scripting knowledge to make most of it happen.
However you plan on doing it, good luck.

For the hardpoint, its going to use the same positions as John put in with a few extras and completely new weapons and textures. But because the Andromeda's weapons varied through each series (seeming to gain more each year) I'm going to settle on an ultimatum. But you will be satisfied :D.

I wish to deliver you a big hug! :D I've always adored the Andromeda... very much. <3

A question for you. Will you be constructing the other Higuard [sp] ships for this pack? I seem to recall a couple episodes where several of their ship classes were featured... in some kind of direlect field of them all held or... whatever. :S I remember one of their AI's being named Osiris, anyways.

OH! There was also this other episode where they showed an older ship that looked similar to the Andromeda, but less streamlined and lacking the funky line thingies all over the place...

There were a couple of other ship types in the earlier series;
Siege Perilous Class/DSX Attack Cruiser
And what ever class the Starry Wisdom was.
Alacratis Missive class courier

The latter series also had some smaller (unknown) Commonwealth/Vedran design models.
Then of course there are various types of drones, and the slipfighters.

The HP was problematic at the time due to the limited weapon types, although recent techs may help with that.
Particularly Point Defence Lasers.

What the Glorious Heritage class really needs is a new set of textures from the later series with the glowing highlights.

I really need to watch this show.

The only thing I knew about this ship was that it was capable of slipstream, which would have made anyone throw up if they were watching the slipstream effect while drinking, lol.

Infact, I don't even think I have ever seen a full episode of Andromeda. It was always on at awkward times during its first run. Its being re-run in the mornings when I'm not around but thats about it.

Enough of my babbleing. If you are able ti improve the model and textures on Andromeda and give it shuttle launching for those funky looking fighters, then you have a definate download from me.
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

I'm going to avoid putting the glow highlight things on 1 or 2 ships:

A) To save time
B) To give an effect of the ships being slightly older.

Also, MR J's version had the highlights but turned up as glows and the colour of the hull underneath. And I'm aiming to get the Andromeda to look like it did in the final series (where they finally got the best out of their CGI!).

And yes, slipstream was a real ice cream headache.

Heres the reason why I started this:

Hearing that revised theme made me wanna shoot up some big shippies.

And heres the Andromeda when she's fully loaded (watch from 1:05 to 1:33):

And yes, I know there was a s**t-load of other Commonwealth/Vedran ships but unfortunately I'm no modeler :( .

Edit: I found some Armada 2 models of other High Guard ships!

I've just thought of something:

If you wanna make an Eternal Vigilance class, you get the GH model, cut the back ring bits off, stick engines on the end of whats left, make it flatter, add a dent round the front pointy bit and you have one!

Watch 1:30 to 1:41 for Eternal Vigilance.

Dalek, talk to (acid)fluxx(bass) about porting A2 models. I think he may have some experience with that (on that note, starforce may too.)

I've never been gung-ho about andromeda, but I like your retexes nonetheless. That remix of the high-guard march is sweet.
