See if the export works before we go any further.

it worked although now MPE renders the ship in a kind of software renderer ... textures are extremely pixelated and there are mapping errors all over the secondary hull ...

I feared that would happen, I had to do little cut and shut to fix the export errors.

If I'm to get it right I'm going to need the textures too so I can fix them as I'm going.

The ship was originally scaled to WZ's TMP Connie, as I've always found his scales to be pretty reliable.  Then again, the scales were for SFC and not BC.  As for the cutting and such, I find that a little disturbing.  I can rescale the ship on my end and do a report again.  Just someone needs to refresh me again on how to scale a ship to a certain size.

TGA's works best for me.

As for the repairs, they were nothing major. On the secondary hull I had to delete a row of faces (the row directley below the gardern windows) and then re-bridge them and reapply the smoothing. There was also similar export errors on the fantail too.

As for scaling ships I just combine the mesh import the BC ship that I want to be in scale to and then just use the scale tool.

Centurus this is your ship at the end of the day and I don't want to step on toes if you want to do the post export repairs to the mesh I'll happily stand down and be here to advice.

This is a very nice an clean mesh it just has a few errors from exporting.

No worries.  Replacing faces to correct smoothing, I've done that a number of times, on this ship during construction, so you doing it I don't have a problem with.  I had a completely different thought in mind.  The smoothing errors are something I've yet to understand why they happen, and have no idea how to keep them from happening, and I've consulted quite a few people, yet the problems just keep coming up.  As for the scaling, sounds good how you're gonna do it, so go for it.

Let me know if there are any errors.  So close to getting it in game, I want to know what else comes up.

Ok, Bones sent me the textures, I have reapplied them and squared up the mapping errors from my repairs.

If you want me to scale the ship let me know which BC ship is the closest size and I will rescale to match, export to max 3 and the re-export to nif tonight when I get home.

Whichever refit Constitution is the most accurate in terms of scale.  Looks like I'm going to need to send the registries as well.

I can  scale it to TMP refit. Then it will be in scale with my drydock and workbee /travelpods and backrupts EVA suits.

Guys, with BC ships, set the units to generic and scale to meters (tools tab on the right panel> measure to get a readout). I've always been scaling BC ships like this, and it is precise enough (I use the scale rightclick window and scale with keyboard inputs, not the mouse, again this is a precision matter).

Centurus, Baz: with the 3ds>mod>nif stuff you'll have a lot of problems on the mesh (mostly because mod format will always kill the smoothing to a single group, the format doesn't allow for more than a single group. This is why ppl always split meshes to elements by smoothing group before exporting to mod), either always port directly to mod or nif. You have a script called back from five (Google it), which lets you import meshes to older versions of max (doesn't export from Max2009 on, maybe the author updated it, I haven't checked for a long time).

I've talked with Fury about that before Adonis, and I still get the same problems with smoothing.  No one knows why.
