unless they are extremely busy with real life (or Excalibur) and dont have the time to really hand-hold someone...
the sad thing, is that when BCC was first created (even back beforehand back at BCU), Mark, Sean, and LC were all ready, willing, and were going to train people about how to do bridges from start to finish, but at the time no one seemed interested about it, or serious and/or wouldnt keep up with it and stay committed... shame, really... if people were as committed to learn as those who wanted to teach, BC might have alot more bridges to this date...
Viper: i know I've heard 'bridges are hell" several times, but i believe once someone has gone from Aactive to Passive in creating something, their torch has been passed. and I think Lurok has picked up the Bridge Torch atm (untill he does his tour).
Lurok has come a long way, and still has a bit of way to go - tho without a doubt he has surpassed about 95% of everyone in BC's history as far as bridge modding...
that being said, he does have some bit of way to go until mastering them... only when completely mastering a subject, can someone be deemed a "god"... perhaps after his 6 month hiatus, he'll come back to BC and master the skills...
now, to keep up the lolcat metaphor why so serious?!
i dont think it is a "serious" thing, i think it is a sort of proud thing; "Bridge God" goes back to like 2003 lol it takes *alot* to be granted such a rare title... lurok is on the right path getting there tho

look at Soverign, here, who's backing out.
Sovvy did say a long time ago that he would retire after DS9FX-E... we all knew that for the last year - he would have retired sooner, but he said he would do DS9-E, stuck with it week after week, stayed committed and kept his word, finished it, released it, and now he can retire... that, and very recently he was offered an excellent opportunity for his career he couldnt say no to, so the time came where he had to say goodbye to modding BC, he wouldnt have any time anymore...
or the guy who created NanoFX.
that would be Nano (Nanobyte), name is Michael and if often posting on Excalibur's forums - he quit BC after NanoFX 2.0 beta because he decided to make his own gaming engine and focus entirely on that... hence NanoGE (and the new model viewer) - and is working alongside with the Excalibur team to ST-E can run on Nano's engine... pretty fascinating stuff, really; alot of progress has been made on that - keep an eye out for public updates over the next months ;)
people burn out, and it's time to pass the torch. the only problem is, a lot of inactives, lately, seem to be the kind of people that can't stand the thought of their "baby" being played with in the smallest way, and things stagnate, then die off.
i dont know if i can agree with that... i think it is moreso that people get burned out more than anything else... i dont really say i can think of a modder who quit modding BC modding because someone was treading too close to their area, like a territory or something lol
the only request I have for the torch passers is keep your hand in, or old skills will fade away and be forgotten.
i agree...
I wanna keep up with the youngsters while remembering old skills as well. but when some guys back away and leave, they don't leave any howto's behind for what they've done.
it would be nice, but unfortunately thats just not how things are done... ive never seen any modder writing down a tutorial with all their skills and posting it; that would be difficult i imagine lol also, when it has been offered to share the techniques, as was done with bridge modding a few years back to recently at BCS where Sovvy was showing people how to script... it was a sort of "school" and got to the 9th or so lesson, but then people lost interest and lost commitment... this was the second time, this Scripter Training Corps, was done... it was first done in like 2004 or 2005 i think, and the same thing happened... many people would say they were interested, but couldnt commit or lost interest or time and unfortunately it fizzled out... but it wasnt a total loss - USS Frontier was in the first round of training, and eventually released Galaxy Charts, GravityFX, a number of Ftech scripts, etc... and Limey98 and others at BCS such as SMBW and others, picked up alot of skills from this second round...
not to worry - when completed and released, Excalibur will be much much more modding-friendly, not nearly as annoying and ridiculously complex like BC; it is being designed specifically as such...
it may take some time until it is released, but i am very certain that modding community will be much bigger and much more active than BC was in its prime days (back in the good ol days lol) and it will have many people from many trek gaming communities... we'll all be there, and im sure there will be alot of people from BC's long history that have faded out of the community also showing up and reemerging...
