While I'm a horrible judge of ages and all that, but from what I've been able to judge, I would think that 'wife' might be just a little more appropriate for CR, I don't know, lol.

No, "mom" is actually more appropriate, since I still live with my parents (I only just turned 20 and am going to graduate school, so it's easier for me financially if I live with my parents); the reason that these guns look so realistic is that I had a real Desert Eagle in front of me while making them - for the Smith & Wesson 500 I used my 629 and a bunch of photographs of the 500.  Here's some pictures of the 500 with satin stainless textures; I still need to make a grip texture and I also should probably draw the S&W logo that should be just below the cylinder release.

Good news is that we've just gotten an animator, so these guns have a much better chance of being seen in upcoming Far Cry modifications; here's a 1911 that I started a few days ago - a lot of odd curves, not a model for a beginner to start with.

Yes; most 1911s are .45ACP, although they've made them in 9mm Parabellum, .40 Smith & Wesson, .45GAP, and .38 Super.

I wonder if you could handle bigger things, like an M4A1, a Krieg, or an AWP.

Uh, obviously I can and am going to :arms: - the Desert Eagle's machinings are far more complicated than the stampings of an HK G3 or an M4 Carbine.

This mod will replace every weapon in Far Cry, which includes not only pistols but many more weapons.

A little more done on this; mapped the grips and cut holes in them for their screws, also finished the hammer and the edge of the grip safety.

I'm sticking with parkerized frame/slide with stainless steel barrel for this one, since the 500 is stainless steel and the DEP .50AE is brushed chrome, which looks similar to stainless steel, although more bluish.

Hey CR. Like the others here, I'm a long-time fan of your work, and these models are more of the same level of art we have come to expect from you.

Let me ask you, why did you choose to do the grips in WWII-style wood? Seeing as how you've done a fantastic job on much more modern designs, I'm surprised that you didn't do a post-modern version such as the MEUSOC, or the Kimber MCSOCOM ICQB pistol:

Finally, I HIGHLY encourage you to consider modeling weapons for Armed Assault, and/or GRAW 1/2. Those communities need modelers with your kind of skill, and they are much more realistic shooters than Far Cry. Give them a look, you might find they are a very rewarding home for a modeler of your.... caliber.  8)

if you ever played Commandos, I was thinking on something like the .45 gun they have on the backpacks.
the same the Green Beret aims towards the camera in one of the artworks.
either stainless-steeled or chromed, white instead of black gives it a better look.

Well these models are just MS3Ds; I will be exporting them for 3DS Max use, so given the appropriate exporter plugin, they can be used in any newer game.

This is a Springfield 1911-A1 Mil-Spec; it is just a notch above the WWII 1911-A1 GI models, which have small ejection ports with more over-the-top ejection that can spit shells in the shooter's face if the pistol is not held correctly.  I like the Mil-Spec because it has almost the same styling as the GI (I have a GI that I finally got broken in) but with better sights, lowered/flared ejection, polished feed ramp, etc.  I'm old-school even though I'm young; I like Colts and Springfields better than Kimber, Para Ordnance, or Ed Brown - these two have been making John Browning's design for a century, and I feel that they do it best.

I like the WWII grips, and I didn't feel like drawing an elaborate decal of the Springfield logo or a bunch of diamond treads over the basic walnut texture that I downloaded.  One of the guys on our mod team will likely be editing the textures I've made for these guns, so he will likely modernize the weapon's grips to the fullest.

I also thought about doing a Hogue wrap-around grip like I have on my Desert Eagle and 92FS, but this is a big pain and takes up a huge amount of polygons.

And the weapon is staying parkerized - any retard can do a "re-texture" of the weapon for whatever videogames it gets converted into.

Well, it does certainly look like an authentic 1911-A1, which is the first weapon I was trained with at Navy boot camp. I also carried one aboard ship during certain operations, but at the time I remember complaining that for the same weight I could have carried an M92 with more than twice the ammo in one clip.

But you've got to love the .45's sheer knockdown power as compared with the NATO 9mm.

Yeah; I can shoot 4" groups at 25 yards with my GI while standing - I like the trigger, hammer fall, grip size, and power of the 1911 a lot better than my 92.  I've noticed though that the Colt and Springfield 1911s with matte-finished rails need to have at least 1000 rounds put through them to get the rails smoothed out for sure-functioning - this was certainly the case with my GI, which has just recently gotten to its almost-perfect reliability.

Another little update; the grip safety and back of the frame have been filled in more, and I've started on the frame's rails.

Hey CR, me and some friends are making a Vietnam mod for BF2142, http://jungleconflict.com/, would you mind letting us use your M1911?  Maybe you could do a Gun for the VC, like a TT-33?

We'll see; I'm also going to be making an AK-103 for the Far Cry mod, so the stocks from the 103 can just be re-textured with cheap wood to look like a 47, which is what most Vietcong carried.
