The old thread went bye-bye, but it needs to make a comeback, especially since I woke up to the sight of that nasty white crap everywhere. I hate snow. /Francis

well, up here, we don't have snow.. we got ten inches couple weeks ago but it melted away, and it's dark, soggy, damp, moist, wet, lightless.. oh yeah, our suicide rates are soaring as usual for this season. it's officially winter, fellas! :D
on the other hand, we might plummet below zero celsius any moment and stay anywhere from 22F to -42F.. That's Finland for you 'mmuricans and continental dwellers.
-
Don't care about winter :P just got better job :D better job = more money = more booze = no winter :funny
-
more booze = no winter :funny
i can understand that realm of thinking :D

perhaps this is the dark side of being an absolutist. no booze= looong, dark, cold winter.. :( meh, screw the winter. wake me up when summer arrives :funny

well, youre a freak anyway and you live in Michigan :arms: :P

well, youre a freak anyway and you live in Michigan :arms: :P
Shut it you yankees :P
At least your governments can cope with a little bit of the white stuff!
Heck most british people go in to "OMAIGAWDWEEZALLGOINGNTODAIBEEEIFWEDRIEVCOZITSWINTARLIEK" mode. My first driving lesson was driving in the snow and driving on ice. Because it was the middle of December '06 and there was nothing but snow and ice for 100 miles!
-
Jealous, ya Limey? :P
at least you started in winter. I got the impression that half of Europe doesn't know what snow is. that's why american cars have all those nannies on them, now. cause Americans don't know how drive in the snow anymore, either! I had to drive in/on ICE, with passengers. I'm glad I had 4wd. I actually used my SUV for what it was intended. that's why I had to junk it...it died...I managed to kill a Toyota!
and it sure ain't "a little bit" of white stuff, ask anyone in the snowbelt. there's only two places in the US that don't deal with snow. SoCal and Florida.
Winter is usually the only time I actually get to work. it's like, the minute the nice weather comes, I'm broke, bored, and boiling :P
I'm betting the minute it's 15 above farenheight, and school busses get delayed till 9 AM so the parents don't sue, THEN i'll be back at work.
-
Fall and Winter are my favourite seasons for the cold, rain and snow...I hate the summer for heat and humidity, I get major migraines and it's probably because I'm an Englishman...everyone knows the clich? weather. ^.^
-
Due to be 31 celsius tomorrow. Eat that, Jimmy. :arms:

Due to be 31 celsius tomorrow. Eat that, Jimmy. :arms:
begone crude monster :evil ... only 7 celsius today with heavy rain and that awful grave grey atmosphere in air :mad and guess what's the worst in it... no booze due to job in the morning :'(
-
Ok, I dont normally grumble about winter because I prefer it colder. I cant breath in hot, humid weather. But damnit, I do NOT like trying to put up christmas lights when its 36 degrees F and the wind is blowing 90 miles and hour [ok, maybe only 20-30]. Damned mother nature tried to knock me off the ladder MANY times!!!
-
I personally hate winter. I'm from Arizona and I'm used to it being 100-115 80% of the year. Spending my whole life in that kind of heat I freeze my ass off when it drops below 70. At night it's getting into the mid to low 40s so I now have to limit my smoking to day time hours :'(
-
ya but its the dry humidity lol :P
and it is true, colder climates does bring smoking down quite a bit (for me as well lol)...
-
HA! i knew there were still Puffers around! find yourselves a sheltered spot if you have a nic fit in crap weather.
here's a weather challenge for ya. try having a smoke in 15 above with 50 mile per hour wind gusts and random snow squalls!
I'm still trying to find a couple of my heavier winter weather pics. including one that collapsed the Front Porch!
edit: AHA! found em! we got hot with a thanksgiving snow, a heavy one. used this as a wallpaper for a couple weeks.
-
Winter in Bulgaria, no way. Here was snowing in two-three towns for a hour and that was it it. Yesterday I was all day with a T-shirt (Judas Priest album (sad wings of destiny) with a fallen angel). Then It was 11-12C and that is very much for a winter. I though a month ago, that now will have deep snow and I will be with my mountain bicycle, to explore strange new mototracks and to seek out new ice and new corners for drifting. To boldly go where no biker has gone before :funny
-
Monday -50s.
Tuesday-60s
Wednesday-30s
Today....20s!!!
More wind today too. Still no snow, which is rather surprising. We've only had snow once this winter, and it only lasted about 5 hours before it all melted.
-
well Iowa is stupid anyway lol j/k :P
it is 64 right now in Rhode Island, albeit rather windy - still freakishly warm for december tho...
only today tho, back to chilliness tomorrow and the rest of the week...
-
we've been hovering around 20-27F for couple days now. earlier we got 10" of snow, but it melted away.. no promises of snow yet. :( plowing snow beats woodworks.. and I have month left of my contract. Probably won't renew it, 8?/day ( yes, per day, not per hour) isn't sufficient payment for the crap I have to go through at work :P
-
where you live, man?

Do they not have a minimum wage over there? 8?/day is just ridiculous.
-
well, it's only temporary job, since I also get ~400? from welfare and additional ~230? for living costs since I live alone. if I would be in real, solid job, I would get from 8-10? per hour on top of what I get from welfare office :D but no such luck error yet. :( it's hard to find a job here, since everyone wants experienced fellows, no-one hires a guy who got out from the school almost two years ago. I guess I have to see if I can find adult training programs. :P

a record high temperature was set for Providence, Rhode Island today - the high temp reached 66f, breaking the old record of 63f set back in 1932...

Meh, I'm tired of warm cold warm cold here in NC :( And I'm ready for summer again myself...skip christmas :D
-
I really like the cold weather. But now the temperatures are about 12-18C. This summer we've been having temperatures about 35-40C and I think that is normal weather. But I very live snow so I'm not giving Christmas without snow.
-
What I want is a White Christmas. I vaguely remember one when I was about 4, but it hasn't even attempted snowing on Christmas day for quite awhile. For once I want a happy Christmas.
-
STUPID SNOW!!!!
Ok, so we are having a damned blizzard. Not even joking about that. We are under a blizzard warning for the next TWENTY FOUR HOURS!!!! They are predicting 16-18inches by morning. 40-50mph winds. Temp down to -2F. I cant even see across the street.
So I went to get new tires cause mine are really worn down. 4 hours later....
New tires
new brake rotors [99% worn]
new brake pads [100% worn]
new brake fluid [after a full brake system flush]
new battery [cold cranking amps...ZERO]
new battery cables [cables worn and ends were corroded into the old terminals]
new battery shouds.
Total....$1,478.
-
Brake rotors? you mean brake drums/discs right? :P
That's a fooking lot of dollar for what you've received!
Tyres, ?60 a wheel.
Brake discs ?100 at most
Pads ?50 give or take
Brake fluid ?15
Battery ?60 for an all singing all dancing one.
Battery cables ?nexttonothing
Battery cover.. hang on
You have battery shrouds??
-
Viper, where do you live? Please tell me you are not sending that B.S. towards me in Ohio. :(
-
(http://www.2carpros.com/discovery/images/rear_brake_rotor_2.jpg)
-
Thanks Neb. The rotor is what the pads grab to stop you. Not only were the pads gone, but the rotors had worn away as well. But hey, they had been on the car since the day it left the factory. 70,000+ miles later....
Tires were $140 each [buy 3 get 1 free]
Rotors were about $100 each
I'm not sure the rest of it all.
CO: The "shrouds" are the protective boots that slip on the cables and cover the battery posts. Mine had corroded away.
Kirk: I live in Des Moines. Dont worry, this is all tracking straight for Chicago. We are currently sitting at 10.2 inches already with a max wind gust of 52mph.
-
so that's why we're deep in the December and no snow whatsoever. You Americans are hogging it all :'(
-

Yeah, that's called a brake disk.
-
it's either or...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_brake
-
As a gratuated car mechanic I can inform you that beloved child has many names.. in other words, brake rotor, brake disk ( these two mean the same thing ) , disc brakes ( general name for these stopping devices ) are all correct. However, all disc brakes aren't equal.. but, that's a discussion for some other topic than this. :D

looks like Captian obvious missed something again...he forgot we don't have VAT to deal with. although the british prices sound actually CHEAPER. it's the LABOUR that kills ya. stinkin 75 bucks an hour, and some of these guys act just like i've heard Britain's "council" does (UKDOT), leans on their toolboxes.
I've gone through 13 vehicles and mabey a new car's worth of overdue repair parts (and mabey 20 tyres), so I know da boss i coming from
-
aaaaanyway... going back to how much winter sucks lol :P
-
aaaaanyway... going back to how much winter sucks lol :P
ok, WINTER SUCKS!!!!!!!
I have a 6foot drift in my front yard. We are still getting more snow. Up to 14 inches or so. Wind is horrible.
-
:D Glad you have it all, for now. I'm sure I'll have to deal with that later (and the fact that my car is probably in the same sorry shape, I know for a fact it needs new tires, it needed them last winter,) but for now I'll just deal with my high winds and cold/ freezing rain. :P

What are you tyres made out of?! Paper?
-
my TIRES are made of good old USofA vulcanized Firestone Rubber, made right here, about 10 miles from my house.

My bad on the vat and labour.
I get most of the parts near or at trade prices (friends of friends) and do quite a bit of the fitting myself.
Viper I knew what you meant the moment you mentioned "boot".
Right now my car could probably do with some new brake pads and the hydraulic lines could do with bleeding too. A quick shifty at the clutch wouldn't do any harm either! And most importantly of all she needs a new bonnet release cable. I checked the oil the other day but slammed down the bonnet before I checked the coolant level. So off I trotted to release the bonnet again. I pulled the lever and I heard the horrible sound of the cable snapping. It's an absolute b*stard of a job on a punto too!
Ps.
WINTER SUCKS.
PPs.
Tyres made out of Firestone rubber? they sound like good tyres to me :evil
-
Yes winter sucks...big time..i missed work due too it...
Went yesterday but did the big 360 spin 2x and ended up

lol what an appropriate way to welcome to BCC, 9thWinter! lol
you picked the perfect thread for your first post, and for that you get a cookie :D
welcome to BCC :)
-
What are you tyres made out of?! Paper?
They are made out of failure, same as the previous owner of my vehicle. These darn things make so much noise! So much in fact that the noise from the awful, cheap tires masked the sound of my front, driver's side wheel working itself loose. :S
-
that big storm that swept sideways over the entirety of the US has left us in some interesting situations, here. we got the snow at the start, being right on the edge of the temperature line. then yesterday, we get thunderstorms, complete with pea sized hail, then it all freezes hard overnight. morning chores had to be done very carefully lest I fall on my ass. glad I'm not driving much THIS winter.
Limey: cheap tyres can be a plague around here. but good tyres run 100 bucks apiece, so people often only buy one or two to save money...then end up putting them on the opposite axle of where they're needed.
-
Winter is finally arriving. We're expecting approximately -25C (-13F for the uncivilized imperialists) within a week or so. :D
-
or 248 K :P

I'm not buying sports width/low profile/summer tread/studded snow. antique wheel size/name brand tyres. no 325/50r20 Pirelli's on MY vehicles, mister. stock steel wheels, if possible, here (so they don't stick to the rotors or drums).
CHEAP tyres ran me for my first car. they were only 35 bucks apiece, plus mounting.
-

one good thing is that it hasnt snowed much yet where i am... a coating of snow the other day, then heavy rain - i hope that trend continues... then again, it is an El Nino year... last winter was terrible, one storm after another after another... completely sucked...
-
where i am you dont buy snow tires you buy winter ice tires...
its that crap under the snow that gets you ditched...or

That's it!! One your face, soldier. You're gonna push earth till my arms get tired. Now MOOOVEEE!
-
one my face?
does not compute lol :P *runs*
it is a lovely 23f outside right now with a wind chill of 8f - one thing about sharp cold windy air, it instantly wakes you up alot more than 8 cups of coffee lol
-
lol at you yanks with your annoying temperature scale and weird units. Do you have any idea how much more difficult they make it to answer engineering questions for people on Yahoo! Answers?
It's currently about 2'C here (that's 35.6'F for the SI-impaired), with a very heavy frost. A couple of weeks ago, the lake that our house overlooks froze solid. Still not a flake of snow yet though.
-
that's why they been teaching us for years how to automatically convert to metric. and look who's talking mister stones weight. this from a country that didn't decimalise it's money untill the 20th century!!
hows this one for lovely 13 above/-11... 2 months early
-
No snow here in Catterick, North Yorkshire as of yet other than the odd shower on the moors. But there's a bloody thick fog which means I really shouldn't drive home (about 300 miles) just yet!
Just to give you some idea of how thick it is.
There's a tree about 10 yards away from my bedroom window. And I can't see it due to this fog.
-
that's why they been teaching us for years how to automatically convert to metric. and look who's talking mister stones weight. this from a country that didn't decimalise it's money untill the 20th century!!
What's that got to do with it? The simple fact is , America is one of only 3 countries that hasn't adopted SI units, the scientific standard.
-

I've always been taught in kg, so stones mean nothing to me. This is a bit of a contentious issue between me and my gf, who learned to use stones through far too many women's magazines. The last bastion of Imperial Annoyance for me in GB is my car's MPG display, because they price petrol by the litre, and using miles as the unit of distance between cities.
But anyway. Winter. Grrrr. I've recently had to start wearing extra layers to bed at night, because by the time I get to bed the heating has been off for about 6 hours. Admittedly this is about 5 hours after normal people go to bed, but I seem to get more done at night.
-
well, it seems that winter arrived at 8 in the morning in form of snow fall, and steep dive of temp.. how steep, you ask? well, from 22F in the morning to 5F at the moment, and tomorrow morning we should expect -2.2F.. :eek
-
Meant to snow where I am (north and west a bit of London) on Thursday. What fun! :P
-
Was -41 Celsius the last couple of days here in Alberta. -51 when factored for windchill.
-
I'm in Silicon Valley and even we've had some pretty cold weather... for Northern California that is.
It went down to 33 F this morning and Mount Hamilton (where Lick Observatory is) which is about 20 miles from my house had snow on it down to 1000 feet. It's a 4,300 foot mountain.
-
balmy. It was equivalent to -59.8F here.
-
Man, that's cold!
I'm originally from Upstate New York and I remember quite a few times when the temp went down to around the -70ish F.
Molecules move pretty slow at these temps :funny
-
lol. i went to close the door on my wife's suv and it bounces back open. that's how cold it is.
-
The colder it is, the easier I breathe. I hate warm weather, it's agony for me...goes that way when you're born in February :funny So, bring on the cold, snow and the beautiful half-darkness of a winter night :evil :arms:
-
black ice really pisses me off, and always triggers a mild heart attack...
steve and me hit a patch of it other way to work this morning, and came within inches of what would have been a terrible car accident - fortunately his cat-like driving reflexes, the fact that no one was just then coming down the other lane where we slid into and wound up (and the angel no doubt riding in the car), nothing major happened...
-
I love the winter. I love the snow :) . Every brake between the different class hours we went behind school to have some shooting with snow balls. I was the onlyone who not feel the negative temperatures and I was with my Manowar T-shirt :funny . It was a lot of fun ;) . Ive heard on the news that tommorow will rain and the snow will dissapear :'(

More proof that cold keeps you awake and on edge rather than slow & sleepy!
-
unless of course, your only half awake while driving on it :P that happened with me a lot. 3-5 in the morning in the winter is NOT a lot of fun if you have to drive in it.
-
I like the cold weather too but...
Give me summer anytime! I live in California and the Pacific Ocean is only a half-an-hour away...
I occasionally surf...... and bikinis are nice :D
-
I love surfaced covered with ice, I love my bike, I love speeds beyond 50kph, I love breaking with two wheels blocked :funny Yesterday while I was on my way to the shop, I take the maximum of my bike and on 12th gear on short stage with over revolutions from my feets, Ive reached about 45kph. After that breaking with two wheels blocked for about 15-20 meters. I love powersliding too. For now I have never fell from my bike in the winter. The body of the bike is a bit old but I am happy that is not from lite alluminiom. I have a bike of steel (Heavy metal surrounds me :funny). Here a pic from the last summer when I was at countryside. I should go out with friends and they will capture videos and pictures how I am trying to kill myself with the bike :funny
-
Pffft.. I could reach speeds above 65km/h on my MTB.. you need to practice more, young padawan.. ;) :D
anyway, today I was really happy that I didn't shave my 2 months worth of facial growth..
-
That was about 200 meters straigh and was imposible to reach more than that. I still remmeber how I nearly died in a motocross track this summer with 80-90kph on one not finished jump :funny
-

Woow, I see I am the only one not in school but in the north part of the planet that today most of the time spent with only T-shirt, jeans and shues. I remmeber about 4 hours ago when I went to the shop, the people were freezing and when i came only with T-shirt upper, they look at me like I am an alien. I hate warm. When the temperatures are more than 24C, I am starting to get sweat a bit. Not to talk this year 40C and above degrees per that year summer.

Aye, same here, born in january during one of the harshest winters (-20 was average night temp, and day temp was -10) can't stand winter either... tho there are some fun aspects about it ;) like 360 spins on asphalt fooltball pitch covered in ice'n snow near my house :DPffft.. ouch 2 months ??? I imagine he looks like Jo?in z Ba?in now :funny j/k
my top speed on bicycle was 66.8 km/h ... couldn't do better cuz I couldn't handle it anymore, front wheel was not entirely centered... actually it was quite curved in 2 places so ride got quite bumpy at 66 km/h and I didn't wanted to lose my face :funny
-
I'd post a pic but my morning face would probably scar your young, innocent mind. :funny
-
not that young my dear youngling ;) and you couldn't beat me to scaring ppl with my ugly facial :evil buahahahahahaha :evil
-
My previous thin aluminium rims were curved but my suspension was making the ride smooth, but now with the new rims its different. The axes has a lot of momentum and the aerodynamic rims and tyres are great. With the new tyres when you ride straight there is very small surface t?uching the ground, but on corners, the tyres are having about 2 inches of surface to touch the ground and I can take corners with massive speeds :P

Vlad: at least you can actually USE your bike. i can't get parts for mine due to shere age. besides, where the heck do you find 27 inch rims in THIS day and age? (let alone the tyres)
YOU guys are the younglings around here, remember? I'm the one with the old guy mug and heavy metal hair (this gets any longer I'm gonna have to go find rubber bands again...)

-8C Today. In school, outside school, returning to home I was with T-shirt and unbuttoned jacked. People looked at my like alien :funny Here we have so many snooow :P Its very cool cycling trough the depth snow and through the ice. Making some powerslides, but the most cool thing for me is to brake the both tyres and some other tricks :roll
-
I have found -8C and such degrees to be quite tolerable, especially when the wind is not blowing. More comfortable than 1 or 2C in fact.
I suspect it has something to do with the humidity freezing and falling to the ground. (which btw is the reason antarctica is actually one of the dryest places on Earth. <--- Useful fact) which in turn makes the air less "thick" and heat conductive? (thus insulating your own body heat better).
On the other hand, hot & humid days just make you want take your skin off.

-17 now :'( I can't stand it anymore... even snots in my nose froze when I walked outside so I choose to stay at home :D

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 1PM Sunday, for central and southern Rhode Island, southeast Massachusetts including Cape Cod and the Islands.
Snow has already overspread the south coast through 930PM and has quickly become heavy, already receiving snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour in some locations. The activity will overspread the rest of the region through 11PM and become heavy by midnight.
Blizzard conditions are expected in these areas for a time overnight and early Sunday with heavy snow and frequent wind gusts of 40 to 50 MPH producing whiteout conditions. Damaging wind gusts to 60MPH are possible on Cape Cod and the islands.
The worst of the snow and wind will likely occur between midnight and 8AM. Snowfall rates up to 2 inches per hour are possible in the heavier bands. In addition, isolated reports of thunder are likely to occur overnight. Isolated snowfall rates could locally exceed 3 inches per hour in any thunderstorm.

Get a car with ESP system and the car will never loose traction, and you will start to like driving in the winter :)
-
DT: hell I hear in texas they close school for a week for one INCH of snow!
Vlad: actually, you learn to controll yourself better if you learn to drive in the winter with no nannies.
-
Yes I love to view spectacular drifting, but I only shared opinion about how its safer to drive in the streets.
-
Lets see: I've had snow for 4 days straight now. :P
-
yes, we got out for 2 weeks once because the roads froze
-
Conditions in scotland today were a bit like when we lived in norway. Except in norway, we had the advantage of studded winter tyres, and for when things got really hairy, snow chains. It's a bit trickier when you don't have either of those!
-
Guess who got to learn how to change out a flat tire, in the blowing wind and snow. This guy. :argh:
-
F*ck man, Today Im soo nervous and angry :mad After school the 14:00 bus was stoped. But the most stupid thing was that the bus set off directly from the bus station where I was. The problem was the 20sm of snow which was not cleaned from the roads. I and 30 other people were forced to wait hour and 30 minutes for the next bus :mad But this is the f*ckin country called Bulgaria, and no one can do something for changing it. In Europe and USA if a bus is late, the bus company is being fine or judged, but here is one Black f*ckin hole. Shumen, Kaspichan, Novi Pazar, Targovishte are the most stupid and f*cking towns that you can imagine. My advice is, do not come in Bulgaria for the winter or to live in a city.

ROFL I don't know what you've heard about the American bus system but where I live it's almost just as bad as yours is, has been for years and there aint a damn thing that can be done. They only get fined for accidents and deaths, which don't happen very often because they drive 10mph below the speed limit.

hmm.. -28C/-19F.. I womnder if i'll go to work at all..

only 6 more weeks til spring! :D
-
you call that brutal, I call it warm. :funny

Today was cycling day! I remmember how crazy felt from the bike. It was a long straigh way, all frozen with ice. I was riding with about 15kph and when I saw it, I changed to higher gear and I gave more power to over rev my rear tyre. It was awesome when your rear tire burnout to drift sideway BUT there was a place wich was a bit angled and front and rear tyres sliped out and in the same second I was on the ground :funny It was soft fell because there were snow.
On one of the pictures, one awful Lada makes my bike ugly :mad
Lol, one of the pictures is 666KB :funny
-
Today I have travelled more than 30km. 20km around my town and 10km to my village where are my gradma and grandfa, my ucle and my cousine. It were 8cm snow on the road, but with my bike, nothing is impossable. When I returned, in the lower part of the road, it was 20cm of water on the tarmac, wet snow and soo on. Here is what I made in my village. A chicken :funny
-
Haha, nice. I don't think I've ever seen a snow chicken before.

Too bad you can't deep fry him... LOL
-
looks like my area will be getting a foot of snow from a major coastal storm wed morning until wed night :(
but i cant quite complain, the last 2 storms in the last 2 weeks were a bit south, and hammered the mid-Atlantic area... Washington DC got like 30 inches of snow over the weekend... suckers lol
-
Nice. Perhaps that will help you guys to come around for the studded winter tires..
-
theyre now saying the storm is going to be like mega-strong off the coast, so everyone from Boston down to New York City down to Washington DC (again) will get around 8 to 12 inches along with 50 mph wind gusts; a classic nor'easter...
fortunately it hasnt snowed around here in the last 6 weeks or so, its been mostly dry... but tomorrow is gonna be crazy... sucks
-
That doesn't sound too ba-- Wait, did you say 50mph wind gusts? :eek Now that makes a difference. :(
-
well, this warning alert was inevitable... *sigh :(
Issued by The National Weather Service
Boston, MA

*** Winter Storm Warning in effect from 8am Wednesday to 1am EST Thursday ***
The National Weather Service in Boston has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.
This Winter Storm Warning includes northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and south of Interstate 90 in Massachusetts. This includes the cities of Hartford, Springfield, Worcester, Boston, Providence, Taunton, Brockton, Plymouth, Fall River, and New Bedford.
Snow is expected to develop between 7am and 10am from Hartford, Connecticut, to Springfield, Massachusetts, to Providence, Rhode Island. For the remainder of the region including the greater Boston area, snow will overspread the region between 10am and 1pm. Snow will become heavy at times across the Warning area Wednesday afternoon and continue into the evening. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are likely during this time. This will result in hazardous travel Wednesday afternoon and evening, especially during the late day commute. Travel is not recommended after noon, as the snow will quickly become very heavy producing whiteout conditions.
As for snowfall totals, snow accumulations of 10 to 15 inches are likely across the Warning area before snow tapers off Wednesday night. Higher accumulations of 18 inches are possible across Rhode Island and interior southeast Massachusetts. For Cape Cod and the islands, snow amounts of 4 to 7 inches are likely where some sleet and rain will mix in for a time.
Northeast winds of 40 to 50 MPH will affect the area Wednesday afternoon and night. This will result in poor visibilities and some blowing and drifting snow. This may result in blizzard conditions for a time across Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. The snow will be wet along the coast and bring the potaential for down tree limbs resulting in power outages. These strong winds may also impact eastern Massachusetts from Plymouth County northward to Cape Ann.
A Winter Storm Warning is issued when an average of 6 or more inches of snow is expected in a 12 hour period, or for 8 or more inches in a 24 hour period. Travel will be slow at best on well treated surfaces, and quite difficult on any unplowed or untreated surfaces.
-
I wish our forecasts would be that detailed.. :(
-
and so it begins... first small flakes of snow slowly drifting downward... should be complete chaos by noon until evening...
i just hope we dont lose power when the storm really rips up, cuz that would really truly suck lol
-
yay double post! yay postcounts! lol :P
out of boredom, ill post the next alert from the national weather service lol
Issued by The National Weather Service
Boston, MA
12:25 pm EST, Wed., Feb. 10, 2010
Snow slowly spreading northward across Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts.
A band of moderate to heavy snow, with visibilities reduced to one-half mile, is slowly spreading northward across southern Rhode Island and the south coast off Massachusetts near Buzzards Bay. As of 1130 AM, 2 inches of snow was reported on the ground in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Heavy snow was reported at Westerly, Rhode Island, with the visibility as low as one-quarter mile.
Light rain was falling in parts of eastern Massachusetts wherever the precipitation was lighter.
The low pressure system responsible for the wintry weather continues to deepen off the New Jersey coast. As it shifts northeastward early this afternoon, we are expecting moderate to heavy snow to become more widespread with whiteout and blizzard conditions across northern Connecticut, northern Rhode Island, and in Massachusetts from Worcester to Boston and southward to the Cape Cod canal. In addition, northeast winds will be increasing to 20 to 30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH or higher by mid afternoon along the coast.
Once the heavy snow moves into the region, it will quickly accumulate on roadways and travel will become quite hazardous. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will likely occur and visibilities should be reduced to below one-half mile at most times.
-
dont think that yall in the north got ALL the snow fun... got soo cold in tampa afew weeks back ( 28 to b exact) that it actually started showing flurries :)

Moderate to heavy snow will continue through the evening along the south coast.
Moderate to heavy snow was currently falling across the south coasts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. These conditions will continue through the evening across the region. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will continue at times. The snow is very wet in nature and may result in downed tree limbs and scattered power outages across the region. In addition, northeast winds ill increase late this afternoon and especially this evening with gusts at times in between 40 and 60 MPH. This will cause blowing and drifting snow and near blizzard conditions by tonight. Travel is not recommended.
-

That is balmy compared to us. Toughen up. :P
-
Shovelling snow is not fun. Two damn feet, almost three. TWO DAMN FEET.
-
lol they really screwed up in the forecast for this storm... turns out, the temperature was just a couple degrees warmer than they thought, so while the snow was heavy, it did mix with sleet here and there; but moreso it was pretty much melting as soon as it landed so it didnt pile up... it really didnt begin accumulating until after it got dark by which time the storm was practically over... so we only wound up getting like 3 or 4 inches of snow instead of a foot... :)
20 miles south, tho, those suckers got like 7 or 8 inches of snow... but its amazing how 3 or 4 simple little degrees can make all the difference between a couple inches or a foot of snow...
winds were ferocious tho...
-
1 good thing about snow in texas is the have to cancel school, so i who was sick mon., tues., and wends., is out either all week, or most of it :P

The temps have plummeted again from yesterdays 20F to this mornings -13F :mad
-
I live in Southern Ohio, and we just got our third whack of snow. Thee is a total of 2 and a half feet and now its all drifting. And whatever melted, it has now completely frozen. Southern Ohio is not equipped to deal with this much snow in such a short amount of time (5 days). My county is crippled and under a Level 3 Snow Emergency. And on Highway 71, there was a 50 car pileup, they are still cleaning it all up. But the snow continues and the temperatures continue to drop.
-
65 above zero:
Floridians turn on the heat.
HEEEY thats not fair!
its been in the 40s for over a MONTH down in tampa and i havnt turned the heat on....
ims a northern blood :p

try -22F and walking to work. It will be a wonder if I won't punch the boss just to get my blood running again..
-
"And this is what it would have looked like if Lionus walked to work in -22 degree weather, entered the office, and mecilessly beat his boss."
-
Well, I didn't hit him.. mostly because I was too frozen to do it.. and then i was off again, climbing to the roof in order to drop 3ft+ of snow off.. and witnessed how a colleague of mine fell off the roof, but hit a huge pile of snow instead of frozen yard, and survived with a fright. Work safety? No, never heard of it. Temp limits? No, never heard of those either. if Finland would have UAW, the country would be on strike 24/7.. especially on winter.

my ex fiance lives in asheveille NC.... shes from florida.... BWAH HAHAHAHAHAHA.... she dunno how to dwive in da snows....
i love karma. :evil
hehe, NC Snow isn't nearly as bad as you think...trust me I live in NC :P
Besides there hardly isn't any :P
not from what her dad tells me
( yes i do still talk to my ex fiances parents.... call me insane )
-
Say hello to Finnish weather. This is what has been tormenting us after that heatwave.. big-ass and nasty stormfronts that come in waves.. tens of thousands of households with no electricity, trees all over the houses, roads and rails and trombis and ball lightnings..
-
Nice. I wish I had more rain.
-
now that's crazy fast
-
yeah, it was more like a scene from The Independence Day..
-
cool vid; i just posted this link on Facebook (via Pegasus/Podge) the other day...
notice the birds halfway through - theyre like "screw this, im outta here!" lol
Nice. I wish I had more rain.
same here... for us in the northeastern US it has been unusually warmer (and much more humid) than normal, and very little rain... grass and such are all turning yellow and brown everywhere, it sucks...
-
Okay, that's just scary. :eek
-
I wish we had less rain..
Screw that, I wish we had a decent phone line that didn't let the water in and consequently screw up all my internets!!
Come to Wales! Where the breasts are big, beer is clean and the rain is (normally) mild!!*
ISPs do suck here though :(
EDIT
Hehe, 32 seconds in "ooooh sh*t.."
-
neeeeds more rain..... hope the storms coming here last a while...
-
I'm strange, in the fact that my preferred weather is raining & 45.
I was born to live in the pacific northwest or the UK, but I got stuck first in Hartford then Columbus.
-
Now I got rain finally. so far it's been going on for two days strait.
-
Copyright block?
-
Ya .... the rain wasted my basement, northeren and eastern fence wall as well as about 25 % of my roof and large chunk of garden .... fu**ing yeah... keep it coming... my neighbour just lost his house and I as well as half of his street helped him to evacuate his home just before it collapsed :O whole building was old, I say post WW2 house maybe mid 60', it's just pile of rubble in place of my neighbour house... that's all that's left ... I hate rain...
-
I feel for you guys, we're getting 34 degrees celcius here in Vancouver, B.C. -- wildfires and air quality alerts with ash from the wildfires falling like snow in the interior toward Kamloops.
-
heh heh ouch

Copyright block?

Oh, hehe. Yeah. Those are annoying. should be outlawed.
-
indeed..
-
ruh roh!
so theyre saying Hurricane Earl is likely gonna be coming up my way and paying a visit to the area Friday night... i live just south of Boston, Massachusetts...
the news is saying "prepare, but dont panic" (lol ya right - tell that to Joe Citizen frantically running around the grocery store :P)
im wondering if anyone i know will be having any hurricane parties? perhaps i should set one up at my house :drink2: :drink3: :drink:
even if we do get effects from the storm, it should be fast moving, tho with winds of about 100 mph... it would really suck if we lose power, what will we do without the intertubes???
-
I'm glad I live in AZ. Granted I LOVE watching storms here (the monsoons, winter storms, etc. when they come around), I think a hurricane would be pushing it for me...
-
what will we do without the intertubes???
dun know... play card games? :idk:
-
true... card games + beer = good fun...
-
Oh, lovely! More humidity! Man, sometimes I hate living in New England...
-
true... card games + beer = good fun...
aye ! worked for me many times :) beer + some babes + strip poker = a helluva fun
-
aye ! worked for me many times :) beer + some babes + strip poker = a helluva fun
And you won every time right? :P :dontcare:
-
And you won every time right? :P :dontcare:
but of course I always won :angel noooot :funny
-
Oh, lovely! More humidity! Man, sometimes I hate living in New England...
youre in New England also? whereabouts?
and ya - the last few days of 95 degrees with high humidity is getting annoying... everything should cool down by friday tho! lol
so far, theyre saying nothing has really changed with the forecasted track of this storm...
except most of the strongest part will be just offshore; should pass us by with winds of about 100 mph tho... where i am, theyre saying we should get about 1 - 3 inches of rain and winds of about 50 - 75 mph which isnt too bad but could still do a bit of damage...
alot could change in 2 days tho...
-
Well, at least it won't be like that one year where we folks here in FL got like 3 in a row. That was pretty intense.
-
was that in 2005? that was a crazy year as far as hurricanes go... they ran out of letters in the alphabet for those storms lol
The Weather Channel is now saying the storm might be a much bigger deal for those of us in southern New England than they had been thinking, based on new information; it may track closer to the coast by the time it gets up here...
great... i just dont want to lose power, no power means tougher to keep beer cold :(
-
no power means tougher to keep beer cold :(
Beer is always better on ice anyways :)
Either way Jimmy and all you other east coasters be safe when that thing hits, I've never been through a hurricane but I hear they can be a bit of a problem sometimes ;)
-
I've been through several...they suck. LOL
Although one year when I was younger school was cancelled :) So that's a plus.
And OH MY GOD that thing is HUGE!!!! What is he now a Cat 5?
-
Damn, you guys have hurricanes, here we have shitload of floods... weather gone completely crazy
-
What is he now a Cat 5?
it was just upgraded to a category 4, with winds at 135 mph gusting to 160 mph... it should weaken a bit by the time it goes by here...
the local news is getting more and more serious about how it will effect Southern New England...
it looks like it will pass just southeast of Nantucket Island, but because the storm is so friggin huge, like 400 miles from end to end, it will be close enough to cause good amounts of damage across eastern Massachusetts, southeast Massachusetts (especially Cape Cod and the islands) and all of Rhode Island...
we'll see what they say tomorrow since theyre still unsure about what the exact track will be...
-
My extended family lives in western Connecticut (Hartford, Manchester, East Hadem)... they say they're excited. :D
-
western Connecticut shouldnt get much of anything, or perhaps the very slight edge of the storm... they can sit back and relax lol
-
Shit the wife and I are planning on going to Florida friday...she's insisting on taking 95 there...as big as that storm is, it'll be a bit over raleigh
-
western Connecticut shouldnt get much of anything, or perhaps the very slight edge of the storm... they can sit back and relax lol
I meant eastern whoops
-
aah lol different story then :P
this morning, im watching the news and theyre saying the storm should track even closer to the shoreline where i am so we'll be getting much more of the brunt :(
where i am in southeastern Massachusetts is now under a Hurricane Watch...
winds are now up to 145 mph with gusts up to 170 mph, tho should weaken by the time it gets up here... winds expected to be about 100 - 115 mph sustained with gusts up to 130 mph by the time is passes just southeast to Nantucket Island, closer than they were expecting now... we're no doubt going to be losing power (dammit) and prolly have quite a bit of damage... might not be able to log into BCC here for a few days lol (but that doesnt mean everyone can run amuck, there are other staffers here besides me :P)
-
Good luck, buddy. I hope that your beer will survive from this.
-
yeah, jimmy without beer is like whitney without crack...LOL
Sorry I just had to say it, but i do hope you don't get the brunt of it Jimmy. I hope it makes a surprise turn back out to the ocean.
-
sent ya a PM jimmy and Ive been through these storms several times living down here in the hurricane captial of Fla and we need to keep an eye on TS gaston now
-
Good Luck Dudes across the pond!
Update via NASA: DC-8 is through the eye of Earl now. It seems to have collapsed a lot since yesterday; no clear eyewall. Can see some water below
That good?
-
its already down to a cat 3 but still strong
-
Yeah, NASA reports the inner wall has collapsed, though winds are still at 80 knots from even about 10 miles out
-
well the good news is that the storm has weakened a bit overnight, and the track is slightly more to the east which is good for us as far as maybe a little less of an impact than they thought yesterday... it may not be as strong when it passes by my area hopefully; they're saying it will be more like a really strong nor'easter rather than a full blown hurricane... :)
which is a good thing because i cant afford to repair any damage to the house or anything lol
and the heat wave we've been having has finally broken lol for the last 5 days it has been over 90 degrees and very much humid... i hate days like that, air so thick it is tough to breathe lol
anyway this is the latest report from the National Weather Service for my area...
Issued by The National Weather Service
Boston, MA
5:46 AM EDT, Fri., Sep. 3, 2010
... HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...
... NEW INFORMATION... UPDATED ALL SECTIONS.
PROBABILITY OF TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE CONDITIONS -
The chance for hurricane conditions at this time is less than or equal to 16 percent. Also, the chance for tropical storm conditions at this time is up to 83 percent.
WINDS -
The strongest winds will be confined to Nantucket and the outer Cape where a brief period of minimal hurricane force wind gusts to 75 MPH is possible. For the rest of the southeast Massachusetts coastline, Tropical storm force wind gusts of 50 to 70 MPH are possible, with the strongest winds closest to the Cape Cod canal. Given trees remain fully leaved combined with heavy rainfall, winds of this magnitude will be capable of downing or uprooting trees, especially across Cape Cod and the Islands where scattered power outages are possible.
The onset of tropical storm force winds will begin along the south coast by late this afternoon. The period of strongest winds should occur this evening into the predawn hours and then rapidly diminish toward Saturday morning.
STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE -
With the present track projection and timing, Storm surge flooding is not a major concern along the Massachusetts coast. A storm surge of 2 to 4 feet may cause minor flooding along vulnerable portions of the Nantucket, Chatham and Marthas vineyard shoreline during the Friday evening high tide.
A storm surge up to 2 feet is possible along the rest of the Massachusetts coast with splashover possible during high tide.
Minor storm surge flooding is also possible for Wellfleet and Provincetown harbors after earl passes Friday night.
INLAND FLOODING -
The axis of heaviest rainfall is expected across far southeast Massachusetts including the Cape and Islands. 2 to 4 inches of rain are possible, with isolated amounts up to 6 inches. Much of this rain may fall in a 6 hour period late Friday into Friday night, which would be enough to produce urban and poor drainage flooding along with areas of minor small stream flooding. A flood watch has been issued for south coastal Massachusetts including the Cape and Islands.
The axis of heaviest rainfall is track dependent and could shift depending on the eventual track of Earl.
RIP CURRENTS -
The worst of the high surf and dangerous rip currents will be Friday as hurricane earl approaches from the south. Earl will exit into the Canadian Maritimes Saturday, however the southern New England ocean waters will remain very turbulent into the weekend despite improving weather conditions. Therefore expect high surf and dangerous rip currents to persist into at least saturday and then slowly easing Sunday and especially Monday. Beach goers should check with local beach patrols and lifeguards before entering the water. Swimming restrictions are likely with possible beach closures friday and possibly into saturday. The most dangerous surf conditions are expected at south and east facing ocean exposed beaches.

SITUATION OVERVIEW -
Hurricane Earl is a category 2 hurricane and is moving north off the coast of north Carolina. Earl is expected to turn northeast today and pass 50 to 100 miles south and east of Nantucket tonight.
Earl will continue to slowly weaken today as it moves over cooler waters, and is expected to be a category 1 hurricane as it makes its closest approach to Nantucket Friday night.
NEXT UPDATE -
The next local statement will be issued by the national weather service in Boston around 1 pm EDT, or sooner if conditions warrant.
-
update winds are now at 80mph and loosing steam what did i tell ya Jimmy she will be loosing steam when it got near maryland
-
ya it is a bit of a relief to know the hurricane is weakening a bit sooner than they were predicting and that it will be a bit more offshore...
it's beginning to rain here tho with some windy gusts, but thats just an outer band... overall, i dont think it will be too bad after all... just a shitload of rain and strong winds...
still might lose power tho, which im hoping not lol
-
U guys wouldnt believe how fast this thing is moving now
-
we usually get weather backlash from hurricanes that come in. I bet the fronts that blew throught here friday gave it a shove that (pardon the pun) helped knock the wind out of it.
-
it was a total flop here lol a bit rainy, some gusts of wind, but majorly overhyped beforehand...
im surprised to see it still a strong Tropical Storm that way high up in latitude... theyre usually fizzled out by then lol
-
Texas got a tropical storm, i live in dallas, so it wasnt as bad, but the rain came down in buckets!
-
i was just reading an article about Hurricane Igor and the incredible shear size of that storm...
fortunately, it wont be coming near the US coast although Bermuda will likely get nailed, winds right now are 145mph...
i hadnt heard much about the storm until i read this article, but it is crazy just how huge this storm is! lol
it is best illustrated by this pic - a superimposed satellite image of Igor over the US to demonstrate its size...

:eek The day after tomorrow comes to mind..
-
:eek The day after tomorrow comes to mind..
Ohh yea. But them storm on The Day After Tomorrow were hemisphere-sized. Lets all pray to god a hurricane never gets to that size. I live in Ohio and we had left over winds and rain from one of them hurricanes back in 07-08', and it nearly tore the roofs off the houses. Our house is rated to withstand winds of up to 110 mph ( a 98 year old brick house, built to last ), but them winds didn't help the neighbor's fences, our roofs, even my neighbor's small barn practically exploded from the wind and there are still old nails in the yard.. I pray that any future hurricanes that swing up this way die off to at least 50mph winds. And them gusts reached 84mph. OHIO IS NOT GEARED FOR THAT!!!!!
-
Instead of making a gazillion new threads every time, let's try and concentrate weather stuff into this thread, shall we?
Current weather: It's half eight in the morning, and it's 32F and dropping. It is possible that we might get snow early this year o.O
-
9:18 in the morning, 12C, heavy rain and blowing wind ... what a perfect autumn :funny
-
4:15 am. Calm, Temperature 54F, clear.
-
10:22 am. G?vle, Sweden. 14C and 57.2F and sun. Not what I'd call an autumn.
Edit: To comply with Jimmy's guidelines.
-
Believe this or not, in a little over 1 hour ( now 5:18 am ), It is now 51F, cold rain, 4mph wind and extremely cloudy.
Ohio weather this year = very little rain, one hot day ( 94F ), the next day it is mild ( 71F ). This temperature shock is not good for my car tires! They are low again!
As of today, the AC Unit comes out...
-
thread would go better if people posted their general locations, as well as both c & f, when posting current local conditions :P
here in Rhode Island, USA - it is gonna be showery and gray today, tomorrow, wednesday, thursday, and friday but wont be too chilly with high temps in the mid-70s (around 22 - 23c)...
-
thread would go better if people posted their general locations, as well as both c & f, when posting current local conditions :P
Awww man. That means I gotta get back the conversion chart! :banghead:
-
Awww man. That means I gotta get back the conversion chart! :banghead:
Subract 30 then half it. Not exact, but close enough.
As for here (Cambridge, England), damp, grey and cold. Just about perfect :P
-
isn't that UK weather for 360 days per year? ;) :funny
-
Oh... right I forgot to add my location :P, so it's 23:25, Poland, Z?otoryja, still heavy rain, even stronger wind and now it's only 8C but what can I expect, it's almost midnight :P
-
it's roughly 01:00 here in central Finland, and temp is 0.7c/33F.
six hours later, -1.1c/30F..
-
4:27 pm in PA..chilly, breezy, probably around 44F. Finally feels like fall.
-
On my way home from uni there's a big sign showing temp and time.
Today it must have been a little out of whack. It showed -50C.(-58F).
That explains why it was a bit drafty on my ears.
-
Tonight's forecast: Dark. Continued dark tonight, turning to partly light in the morning. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1uaw3WIOlc)
Seriously, however: It's just after 10pm, it's 73 degrees (Fahrenheit of course) outside, and we have 92% humidity - because it's been raining for the better part of the last 36 hours! And my house has no AC, so it's quite muggy in my bedroom at the moment. *grin*
-
It's 7:05 PM here in Arizona. It's 95, partly cloudy. Looking at a low of 72 tonight.
Rest of the week is looking to be mostly clear with highs in the low 100s and lows looking to be in the low 70s.

Reminds me of one time when I lived in Illinois, there was 3 feet of snow on the ground and the thermometer on the bank read "190F". Literally, it was a cold day in Hell.
-
October 2 1858 - a Category 1 hurricane hit San Diego, Califormia and is now believed to be the only tropical system to produce hurricane winds on the California coast...
-
Guelph Ontario Canada 7:39am....its 4c (41f) with a feels like 0 listed...yippy....
Im not a fan of snow....but we (this part of ontario ) need it this year to bring the water table back its way low...
-
right now in Providence, RI it is a chilly 44f (7c)...
-
Finally I can start seeing some yellow on the trees. And it's a nice 10C(50F) too.
-
October 3 1979 - with little warning, an F4 tornado ripped through Windsor Locks, Connecticut... at the Bradley Air Museum, 16 vintage aircraft were totally destroyed...
-
right, so 41f (5c) here at 1130 pm in Providence, Rhode Island...
trees around here turning colors and stuff...

Now; Washington Court House, Ohio, Cloudy, 50F ( 10c I think for you non-Ferenheiters ).
Tomorrow ( I work at night, or day for you Euro guys ) 48F ( 8c? ), late rain showers, and a chance of boredom.
-
It's 9:04am here in Arizona and its sitting at 81 degrees (Fahrenheit of course). It's looking to get up to 98 today.

Want.
-
I'd gladly trade to Nevada weather.
-
I'd trade Camp bastion weather for that snow :P
Far too much dust here. You can actually taste it in the air and when you breathe it in it doesn't seem as satisfying or as comforting as it does back home.
Too much dust!!
-
October 26, 1998 - just four days after its birth as a tropical depression, Hurricane Mitch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Mitch) became a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 180 mph and gusts over 200 mph...
-
Weather has just been screwy this week. Goes from high of 40s-50s to 60s-70s, then back down to 40s-50s...rain, shine, wind, rain, wind, shine, shine, rain...if you're looking at consistent weather any time except the winter (in which case, the weather would be "cold"), don't live in New England!
-
our weather has been bouncing back and forth between slight snowing and drizzling rain, above and below 0 degrees centigrade.
-
I got back into the UK yesterday morning and I haven't seen a single speck of snow yet.
WHERE THE F**K IS MY SNOW PEOPLE?!? You've all been whining about it all week ffs!
-
You missed it. :P
-

It was all eaten by me :D

Falling in non-collecting flurries in northern Massachusetts. (Had a little "sprinkle" of it at about 9am my time, heh.)
-
December 7, 1998 - record warmth spread across the Northeast... all-time highs for December were set in Providence, Rhode Island, at 77?F, and Boston, Massachusetts, at 76?F...
12 years later, and it is 50 degrees colder and very windy lol
-
Today in AZ we got a high of 76?F and a low of 48?F. Sunny skies all week. I love this desert...
-
and we got around 10" of snow overnight.. capital got 20" :funny luckily, weather is still relatively warm.. -8c/17F
-
i am already sick of winter lol
not a snowflake has fallen yet where i am thank god...
tho this entire week has been bright sunshine, it has been very windy every day and cold and hasnt gotten about 32f much at all...
-
Today we have our first snow :yay:
-
im gonna merge this General Weather Thread with the Stupid Damn Winter *grumble grumble* (kirk stole my line lol :P) thread...
they both seem the same idea since it is winter now lol
reading back to the beginning of the thread, a year ago (and 1 week) it was 64f (17.78c) where i am - why cant it be like that again???
http://bc-central.net/forums/index.php/topic,6778.msg131164.html#msg131164
and then a week later it was 23f (-5c) with a wind chill of 8f (-13c) lol how i do love New England weather :hithead:
looks like where i am only got one major snowstorm last winter with the occasional light storms... hopefully this winter will be as inactive and quiet again...
-
Motorbike in the garage -3 degress C stole my car back of the wife, so she is back on the bus.
Perth in Scotland on Wednesday had a high of -14 degress C
We are having a mild weekend before temp drops again next week with more snow due.
-
deja vu. that's what it's supposed to do here. i LOVE having to drive in winter before the plow drivers even get outa BED!
-
Largo, Florida not even winter yet and already we have 2 straight nights of freeze warnings and its already 45 degrees here at 7:30pm
-
:nopity:
:P
-
:nopity:
:P
already 23 degrees here in the Piedmont of North Carolina....and expected to get lower :P
-
didn't anybody watch their local news? the dang jetstream's been shoved clean down to CUBA.
don't "world's smallest violin" TOO much, jimmy...that's where ALL the food is grown nowadays.
what's your icebox reading up there in Frozen New England, then? i had 11 (-12) on the thermometer this morning.
-
it is a balmy 24f (-4.44c) with a gusty breeze bringing the wind chill to 9f (-12.78c) in Providence RI currently...
on this date in 1924, the temperature in Helena, Montana fell 79?F in 24 hours and 88?F in 34 hours. From the 14th to the 15th, the temperature plummeted from 63?F to -25?F... now that is hardcore! lol
-
'nuff said. (http://www.thefuckingweather.com)
jb76 edit - link fixed
-
broken link, mustang. the swear filter killed it.
-
there is no swear filter here... all we ask is people keep it under control and/or censor themselves if they can/needed lol :P
anyway, ya - balmy weather
-
Dang Jimmy...your low is only one degree lower than NC....*blinks* God I hate winter!
-

-
yeeaaahhhh, and Bulgaria has snow :yay:
-
hasnt snowed yet here in Providence, RI so far (which in of itself is unusual)...
hope it stays that way lol
-
lol looks like i spoke too soon... theyre saying that we could get a rather nasty coastal storm sunday night into monday, but theyre just not sure how close it will be to the coast, thus how much snow we'll get...
but they're already saying it could be a big deal... :(
it's too early to tell of course, but hopefully the storm will just slide out to sea far enough away...
(im in the little black box in the attached images of their storm forecast models lol)
ironically enough, if it is going to move they way they are thinking now, it will be on dec 19 - dec 20...
last year on dec 19 (which i think was our first storm last year), we got an intense blizzard and this one is supposed to be just like it if not worst lol
http://bc-central.net/forums/index.php/topic,6778.msg132857.html#msg132857
-
It's back for another hack at ya Jimmy! :P
-
well ... apart from that my family's other car is frozen under 70 cm of snow and my road is now a trench in snow I'm fine ... -24 at night , - 16 in daylight ... awesome ... really ... F. awesome... I hate winter... can't we have summer already ???
-
Got 6 inches of snow!! yaay!
-
well now theyre saying that massive coastal storm may veer moreso out to sea and miss us completely :yay: :dance
*keeps fingers crossed*
-
that system is going to give us a rain chance of 70% and a low pressure system is supposed to form along the old frontal boundry and swing northward
-
on December 17, 2008 - Las Vegas, Nevada had 3.6 inches of snow; the most since January 31, 1979...
-
This morning, at about 08:30, was very cold! -19 outside :lostit: But this was no problem, in the car was very warm :D
EDIT:
Here is and one beautiful shot of the snowly road and trees :P
-
crap. beautiful shot...till you blow it up.

And one from the window of the room, with my new, just edited camera phone drivers :P

Cali is getting it the worst in form of several inches of rain which has casued flooding and mudslides and forcasters say the worst is yet to come http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_california_storm
-
wahey! we're going to get -32c/-25F for christmas eve!
-
whereabouts is that? northern canada?? lol
-
It started snowing here this afternoon - and it's actually started to pile up enough to be noticed! YAY!!!
-
Finland, Jimmy. his hometown abuts russia (or close enough), and it at the same latitude as southern NWT/Yukon/Nunavut...so...nice guess :P
-
It started snowing here this afternoon - and it's actually started to pile up enough to be noticed! YAY!!!
nothing here outside of a few flakes hovering about in the breeze lol
no snow at all really so far this winter, here in RI... :)
and it at the same latitude as southern NWT/Yukon/Nunavut...so...nice guess :P
figured it must be a bit high up in the latitude for such a terrible temperature lol
-
Indeed. Does any of you wonder anymore why I want to move to SoCal..? :P
-
not right now, you don't. they got hit with torrential rain and are suffering from mudslides atm.
meanwhile, what's this I hear about europe shut down by winter again? and britan shut down by 5 inches of snow? yeesh, don't brits ever plow?
-
4-5C today and will get warmer :yay: Exactly for the winter Star Trek meeting in Sofia, plus other activities in Sofia :yay:
-

Given that we have no snow plows in this country, no, we don't. And given past experience, we don't really grit either. The councils are too worried about running out, so ration it
Annoyingly, I seem to be in a bubble thats getting next to no snow at all. On the other hand though, that means I don't need to drive my incompetent mother into work every day.
-
there were guys on the radio this morning that were making that "don't plow" comment. I'm gonna correct these guys :P and i thought you guys saved the grit to try and fix the tarmac :P that's some of the worst roads I've ever seen :P
-
nothing here outside of a few flakes hovering about in the breeze lol
no snow at all really so far this winter, here in RI... :)
Up a bit northerly, we got about...oh, maybe two inches yesterday. It's started to disappear already, of course, but...

Anyone here in Oslo, Norway?
I'm here with family for the Christmas period.
Last night, I noticed a wierd phenomenon in the skies. I took some pictures, but these pictures from the web are much better:

Anyone want to take a guess at what it is? No googling, damn you - this is a gentlemanly guessing game!
And no, it's not the Aurora Borealis.
-
I knew we're not alone ...
-
northern lights?
-
northern lights?
aren't thoe called aurora borealis ???
-
lol.
you have family in norge, and no-one ever told you about the Northern Lights?
btw, when do you dress up like a goat? (SatW refrence)
-
holy deja vu batman! lol
theyre saying *another* strong coastal storm is going to form and then move up the coast, hitting us sunday-monday timeframe lol
thats exactly what they were saying a week ago this time, but that storm eventually moved much south of where i am, and out to sea... tho theyre saying "too early to tell" about the storm, this is total deja vu anyway...
hopefully this one will follow the track of it's predecessor and slide out to sea well south of us...
incidentally, it snowed a little bit overnight here coating the ground, but thats it lol
-
Haha, you guys get snow. :rotflmfao:
Wait... We get stupidly hot weather.
-
And no, it's not the Aurora Borealis.
AKA Northern Lights
Aurora tend to dance and undulate through the sky. These remained stock-still, and faded from view, only to re-appear in the same positions in the sky 3 hours later.
Jimmy, when you say storm, you mean, like, biblical, right? I hope it slides away south too, for your sake!
As for snow, all of Europe has been under kilotonnes of the stuff for the last month or so. It's getting old, tbh!
-
I'm thinking it's some weather condition that's reflecting the light from the ground up...
Northern Lights was just a random thought before looking at the pics closer lol
-
Yup! (http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=auto&tl=en&u=yr.no)
Supposedly caused by snow-blowers on a ski slope near here.
:( first Nasa, and now Norway! When will something starting with an N announce first contact with Aliens!?
-
well, looks like we dodged a bullet last weekend with that last storm going out to sea far south of us...
this time around, i guess we're not so lucky... theyre saying right now we could get 8 to 12 inches of snow by monday afternoon... :(

*looks outside at gorgeous clear skies* i think we're dodging the bullet again...
-
looking outside where i am this morning, there is very light snow with a light coating on the streets already...
how i do wish i had a functioning camera where i could take pics of how things will look later on today...
a couple friends of mine are gonna be stopping by, in a few hours around noon, and camping out here at my pad until tomorrow afternoon... i think it would be fun to have some beers for lunch and then when the weather starts getting really wild during the afternoon, we'll all walk downtown (it's only about a 10 or 15 minute walk downtown from here) and have a few more beers before stumbling back to my apt... hope to not lose power...
ive already decided i wont be going to work tomorrow lol screw that...
it's a pretty intense storm - everywhere along the coast from Atlantic City, New York City, Boston, etc are expecting about a foot of snow, and here in Providence about a foot and a half of snow... earlier, for here, they were saying 15 to 20 inches, but now theyre thinking more like 12 to 16 inches but that still is a pain in the ass lol
http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/northeast-snow-radar-updates_2010-12-17?page=3
-
well that was fun... completely snowed in...
at least a foot of snow here, too hungover to shovel... perhaps later...
all 3 airports in new york city are closed... storm is a big deal around here lol
-
and nothing but wind drifts again....something's going on around here. there's also a report of 40 and rain on new years...
-
idiots..
those are transporter beams...
Don't you guys get it!! THey are invading us! They are transporting cloaked armory to the surface to attack us with new year!
I give shelter to you guys, *Takes photonic canon and a soda.
-
And they're invading Oslo? Is this another Ferengi invasion plan drawn up by Nog?
(Come to think of it! The Norwegian.com plane that flew me over here was named Nog!)
-
December 27, 1999 - an intense storm brought damaging winds to Western Europe; gusts up to 125 mph uprooted 10,000 trees around the Palace of Versailles near Paris, France...

Jimmy, I'm beginning to think you have a thing for the weather...

Well, perhaps Jimmy has a MILF thing going on for mother nature.. :lostit: :funny

So, you're saying that mother nature favors strapon? kinky. :D
Unless, like all other women on the internet, Mother Nature is actually a 40 year old guy from Texas. In which case, not so kinky.

You're just like those people who say Santa Claus isn't real, Limey!
If there's no women on the internet, then why are there presents under my tree on Christmas morning!? HUH?!

like that's a PROBLEM for some of us ;)
and you shoulda said "sixty" instead *shudder*

aaaaaanyway... :P
December 29, 1894 - Florida had a severe freeze, with Orlando dropping as low as 18f (-7.78c)... this freeze combined with another in February to wipe out 98% of the state's citrus trees...
-
I'm just glad that we didn't have the same kind of weather like we did down here last year. Although I wasn't in Florida last year to deal with it unlike Dawg LOL I was in Indiana making Snowmen, while Dawg was learning a new way to make Orange Slushies ROFL
-
Ooohhh, fuckin Christmas. Today a miracle happened! Car's battery died totaly! For original car's acumulator, which is now 6 years old is normal, but why not yesterday but today? :X When with the contact key, the acumulator has 11,5 volts, which is in the normal parameters, but when going on starter, the voltage goes down to 8 volts and the board computer is flashing or turning off. That is and why since two, three months the immobilizer is making shits 10 minutes after the car was started :X
-
Reason is simple.. You live in a city, don't you? And you guys drive short distances with relatively low speeds, right? Modern car like your Almera has a chip that controls when the alternator works as it should, and it usually works at motorway speeds. In city speeds it doesn't charge battery because the chip tells it not to in order to lower the strain on the engine and reduce emissions and improve fuel economy.
-
Nope, we are living in small town and most of our journeys are out of cities. The alternator's charging power is up to 100A. + my dad made a charger for the car, to keep the voltage in the winters at around 13,8-14V. I think it's the age of the battery ;) Even from this summer there are doubts for problems with the battery.
-
why would they stick a "highway" chip in the charge controller? Especially considering the states are the only ones that need those, I think (yo, Canadians, chip in, eh?).
in MY experience, it's both the battery AND the alternator half the time. I've had half a dozen alternators blow out on me (most of them, Fords) but only 3 or 4 batteries (and they were horrendous)
do all the Idiot lights come on, or do they only build that telltale into US market cars?
Idiot Lights: n. small indicators, usually in the instrument cluster, that indicate a problem or warning where not covered by guages

December 30, 2005 - Tropical Storm Zeta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Zeta) formed in the Atlantic, the 27th named storm of the year, continuing the record tropical season...
there were 15 hurricanes that year, seven were major... and it was the first time we ran out of letters in the alphabet to name the storms and had to use greek letters...
Decmber 30, 2010 - a 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck central Indiana (http://www.indystar.com/article/20101230/LOCAL/101230007/3-8-magnitude-earthquake-hits-central-Indiana?odyssey=mod|breaking|text|IndyStar.com); no injuries or major damage, but a rare place to experience them...
-
oh brother... theyre saying now that there is a good chance of *another* coastal storm for my area for friday into sunday...
words like "potential", "significant" and "powerful" are already being used to describe this one now, the end of the week...
deja vu! we just had one of these goddamn things - i just hope it doesnt pan out or maybe it will be mild enough for no snow and all rain... :(
-
knowing your luck :P
-
can we have your storms? We could use some more snow.
-
I can't read those damn weather maps. To me, it looks like a badly drawn battle strategy.

wow really? you cant understand those maps? :P

it has been a stormy winter thus far (as far as the last few weeks go) for most of the US...
http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/weekend-snowstorm-again_2011-01-04
theyre starting to say the storm will be a bit moreso out to sea now, so hopefully thats what will happen... im not in the mood to shovel for 2 hours again lol
-
Wuss. :P I have to do that 2-3 times each week for 4-6 hours while listening bitching customers who are telling us where we should out each shovel-full of snow. So, you're having easy time there. :bitch:
-
i would tell those customers to go eat yellow snow lol :P
-
I've been tempted to make some fresh golden snow for them before making them eat it. But, I've kept my temper in check, because I know that we're their only hope, and with this low salary they get the quality we give.
-
you city people. we just drive THROUGH it if we have the right vehicle. (have to...they're too busy plowing the interstate :P)
-
the gods are being nice to me this time around... :D
storm will be too far out to sea and not as strong, so we'll just be getting snow showers and light snow this afternoon and tomorrow, with about one inch of snow total lol :dance
ok i can handle that lol
-
well we dodged the bullet with this storm this weekend...
however, there is yet *another* very strong coastal storm riding up the coast and right up by here tuesday night - wednesday night that we'll be hit by, theyre already very sure of that... theyre already saying everyone along the northeast US coast from new york city to hartford to providence to boston and up to maine could get another blizzard just like the one we had just 2 weeks ago, with another foot or more of snow widespread :(
im really starting to hate this winter - it went so very long here without any snow, and now it is storm after storm...
-
Boohoohoo. :P You're not the one pushing it off from peoples driveways.. it's above zero celsius here, now, so the snow is wet and heavy. FML.. :bitch:
-
the bullet hit US instead. fortunately, it's not to deep. but this snow is...weird. it's "squeaky".
inevitably, i got stuck this morning. I blame it more on the damn sports car tires that someone put on this van when THEY bought it.
-
I think perhaps the squeakier it is, the smaller the ice crystals are. As your foot grinds them together, the crystals make more vibrations per square inch if they're smaller, so the sound emitted is of a higher frequency.
-
*gurgle* six.. hours.. of plowing wet snow.. :hithead:
-

SCIENCE!
-
SCIENCE!
:D
-
she blinded me with it!
-
[ sing]weeeeeeeird...[ /sing]
-
I don't believe it! There she goes again! She's...nevermind.
-
well the blizzard is on it's way unfortunately...
should be a mess by this time tomorrow morning right through the afternoon... definitely taking a day off from work tomorrow lol
http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/another-northeast-winter-storm_2011-01-09
-
Oh, GOODY!
-
Another six hours of dropping snow from rooftops + 1 hour of digging my land yacht ( 740 Volvo Sedan) from a pile of snow so I can remove battery later for recharging/replacing.. Might feel bit tired soon :P
-
Sucks for me now, as I actually have things to worry about other than sitting on my ass all day.
-
Funny thing is, I had been sitting in Connecticut over the weekend, and we got about 5-6 inches of snow. Over in the South Shore they got 2-3 inches. In my neighborhood, just a flurry, lol.
-
Storm came in around midnight. You can't see a damn thing out my windows at the moment. Total blanketed whiteness. Looking at maybe a good foot, foot-and-a-half.
Me and my big mouth.
-
yep same here... total whiteout right now here, horizontal snow, looks to be easily about a foot of snow here... there are a few steps from the front door of to the sidewalk, i cant even see them...
still about 6 hours of heavy accumulating snow before it winds down... it's that heavy wet snow that makes shoveling so much fun, cant wait for that later! lol
absolutely no one out, streets vacant (i live in downtown providence), it almost looks pretty and serene seeing the city blanketed and empty lol
-
Now, where are the zombies to make the image complete?
-
even zombies have a temperature limit! blimey, single didgets tonight, and the gas won' stay on!
-
January 18, 2007 - a violent windstorm struck northern Europe, disrupting air and rail transportation; wind gusts to 99 mph were reported in England...
-
oh come on now... another one???
yet *another* storm is likely going to be ripping up the east coast on friday, and there could be heavy snow and high winds from northern New Jersey to New England (including New York, Hartford, Providence, and Boston)...
again :(
tho there is a chance it may stay off the coast and mostly out to sea - and i really hope that's the case because i just cant fracking deal anymore lol
-
we have to deal. we still have February to go, and most likely, MARCH.
-
And we've started dropping snow from rooftops.. Not for those who have a fear of heights like I do.. but it's not so bad during winter, because everything is white so estimating the distance down is difficult.. :P
-
well, so far theyre now saying that most of the shit will be out to sea, and we may only get 4 - 6 inches of snow on friday instead...
*crosses fingers*
-
well, so far theyre now saying that most of the shit will be out to sea, and we may only get 4 - 6 inches of snow on friday instead...
*crosses fingers*
That's the rumor here as well...
-
ya the gods cut us a break with this one lol
even still, the drive into work is going to be a mess... tho there wont be much in the amount when it is done, it will be a quick hitter and while it is snowing it will be snowing at a pretty good clip throughout tomorrow morning...
-
Well, at the moment here in southeastern Kentucky it is pouring snow. We have been promised 4 to 6 inches. What is so bad here are all the mountain roads get near impassable, they only keep main roadways clear. Glad I live near the main road.
Have a very steep driveway, can slide down if i have to, but can't get back up so I have to park near the roadway. good for exercise I guess,, :D
-
at least you didn't have to WALK home, today (about 6 miles!). fuel lines froze up again, and now everybody thinks the fuel pump is fatz (been hanging around my drive clients too long). it may have been cold, but it was lovely out in that. i even saw Turkey.
i get out of the heavy snow for tomorrow, thanks to my wonky fuel system (but probably not the repairs)
-
Saw the sun today after 3 days of snowblowing & shovling ... but tonight at 3:00am starts another 8 inches pver the better part of the day ....
-
ugh it's really cold out... no coffee needed, the sharp cold air is enough to jolt anyone awake lol
-
ugh it's really cold out... no coffee needed, the sharp cold air is enough to jolt anyone awake lol
But coffee is still nice. Especially when it's Dunkin'.
-
That's not cold, that's WARM. :P
-
yeah, but your also a good 15-20 degrees NORTH of the rest of us in the Northern US AND in a cooler growing zone.
-
lol here comes yet another major coastal storm for wednesday!
what is up with this winter??? storm after storm after storm after storm, every few days ffs!
i just hope this one isnt going to be another blizzard...

Another East Coast Storm Looms!
by Jonathan Erdman, Sr. Meteorologist
Storm Ahead: What We Know Now
After finishing with the South, low pressure will likely intensify in the East late Tuesday, then track up the Eastern Seaboard Wednesday and Thursday.
The exact track of the intensifying low will determine the impacts (how much snow, if rain mixes in, etc.). There are two track scenarios most likely at play:
Scenario #1: Low tracks farther inland
- Cold air (i.e., subfreezing air) may give way, especially near the coast.
- Sleet, freezing rain (with potential ice accumulations), or rain may fall along/near the I-95 corridor for a period of time, reducing total snowfall amounts there.
- Heaviest snow totals: farther inland over the interior Northeast.
- High winds, downed trees/powerlines, power outages, would be a given, particularly if there is significant ice accumulation, due to the force of wind plus the weight of accumulated ice.
- Coastal flooding
- MAJOR travel disruption (airports, roads) over a wider area, given heavier snow totals inland, and potential ice accumulations.
Scenario #2: Low tracks offshore, near the coast
- Cold air (i.e., subfreezing air) remains locked in place.
- Heaviest snow and blizzard conditions along I-95 corridor. Lighter amounts in the interior Northeast. Somewhat similar to Christmas Weekend blizzard.
- High winds lead to downed trees, power lines, power outages and coastal flooding.
- MAJOR travel disruption (airports, roads)!
If the offshore low track (scenario #2) pans out and the low is too far out to sea, then the I-95 corridor may only see a glancing blow of snow and wind. The exception may be eastern New England.
What we know now:
*Peak storm impact in Northeast: Wednesday through early Thursday
*It is far too soon to precisely forecast snow/ice totals for any given city/location.
*However, this storm has the potential to dump at least 1 foot of snow over a large swath of the Northeast, with much higher totals exceeding 20" in spots.
*High winds, downed trees/powerlines, and power outages are possible Wednesday into Thursday, particularly near the coast.
-
It's headed right for me! - will it go out to sea? or will I be spending more time with my new best friend mr shovel?
it missed us!
-
that storm was crazy intense... they really screwed up that forecast - 6 to 10 inches of snow my ass... it was twice that!
New York City got 19 inches of snow; Boston, Hartford, Providence - all a foot of snow... even as far south as Philadelphia got nailed... what is up with this winter ffs???

funny...we got diddly. the sun was even out.
-
January 28, 1986 - cold temperatures at the Kennedy Space Center caused a sluggish response of an O-ring, leading to the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger...
i remember exactly where i was that day... i was 9 yrs old and in the 4th grade, and i was home with the flu watching TV on the couch that day...
during the middle of The Price Is Right (between 11am and noon) is when the news came on and stayed on for the rest of the day...
-
inches of snow and just a few degrees of minus and its the end of the world?
Let me know when you start measuring snow in feet and get -35'f / -40'f...
Coldest I ever remember it getting around here was in 98-00, -62'f.
-
depends on where your at. i know where I'm at, anything below 15 F gets people worried (the average for January where I'm at is right at freezing) the temperatures your describing are Alaskan (or Minnesota in a WARM winter :P). for where Jimmy's at, yes, that's rather unusual, being costal, he's in a warmer climate zone than I am.

-
Hey Jimmy, you should come to NC It's gonna be in the 60's the next couple of days here :D
-
another major storm is on the way! lol
this one is going to be epic, literally... 2/3s of the entire US is going to be nailed by this one... blizzard in Chicago and northern areas, major ice storm in the central US, a severe tstorms and tornados likely all the way down to the Gulf Of Mexico - and all points east to the Atlantic... this one is a rare storm...
doesnt look like major snow for us this time around when it comes into this area, mostly an ice storm; but still snow should pile up a bit here... hopefully not too much tho...
Multi-Day Dangerous, Destructive Winter Storm (http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/dangerous-destructive-winter-storm-midwest_2011-01-30)
-
Weather guys here say that we'll be hit with at least two different storm fronts here in Massachusetts over the next week. I'd leap for joy (and in total sarcasm), but I have a bum knee and a bad back. *grin*
-
OOOH YAY going to get between 10 to 15 inches of snow! XD
Maybe more!
-
You know, given whats happening in other parts of the world right now, I'm not sure you Americans are really in a position to complain about your weather!
-
You know, given whats happening in other parts of the world right now, I'm not sure you Americans are really in a position to complain about your weather!
How do you figure?
-
How do you figure?
Well all of Australia has been utterly devestated by floods, and you're all complaining about a few inches of snow?
-
we know this... that is horrid yes... no need to get so twisted in a knot about it.
also... about our little complaint in the US...
It's more than a few inches and this storm is the largest in US history.... impacting 1/3 of the population.
-
Well all of Australia has been utterly devestated by floods, and you're all complaining about a few inches of snow?
A FEW inches??? Try a couple feet.
-
both the Northern AND Southern hemispheres are getting whopped hard.
-
indeed they are :C
-
This crazy storm is impacting EL Paso of all places... I have been here for 5 years and we have never gotten these temps ...
We had a snow day today ... no work or school... its now 5 inches and still snowing..oh yeah and some of the pipes froze so no water in parts of the house...lol
-
Son, I'm disappoint. :lostit:
-
its texas, man. thats basically hell on earth for those guys, imagine if we had 105'f during summers... or even longer :D
but yeah its fun to follow americans gasping at the sort of weather that would be considered kinda warm-ish / very mild at best in finland.
-
Texas hasn't seen those temperatures since it broke off from mexico in the 1830's
-
we have been stuck inside for alost 3 days in dallas, it is supposed to stay below freezing until late saturday. there is also another cool weather front coming in by thursday afternoon. the wind chill in dallas is supposed to be -7O.

before or after state-wide emergency? :D
-
Hasn't happened yet but probably tomorrow night... Al Gore, what happened to Global Warming? The way things are going now i want it!
-
Well all of Australia has been utterly devestated by floods, and you're all complaining about a few inches of snow?
Let me put this in perspective: I have six-foot snow piles all around my house, and indeed there are similarly large piles around a great many houses all over New England. We've been trying to dump it into the backyard, and still it piles up. Snowblowers can't do jack, and neither can the plows. Plus, I live on a narrow street, which makes the snow pile buildup even worse, as it could impede traffic down my street - both because it crowds the street, and because people have to walk into the street to get by, as the sidewalks are all buried. The weight of all the collecting snow is collapsing roofs in various cities and towns all over my state - and that's just MY state. Lord knows what's happening everywhere else.
It is not my intention to downplay what has gone on in Australia, which - if what I heard from Queensland last month was any indication - is pretty nasty stuff. But with respect to that, you're not the only one who has to worry about what Mother Nature is going to throw at their country next, friend.
-
but yeah its fun to follow americans gasping at the sort of weather that would be considered kinda warm-ish / very mild at best in finland.
:yeahthat:
Joshmaul: remember, this is a pair of Scandinavians talking. those temps and accumulations are NOTHING to guys that close to the Arctic Circle, and New Englanders should be relativly USED to that by now (i hear Maine gets it bad in the winter). for us, it's the temps that are the pain, and I'm at 40 degrees north.
what Joshmaul is referring to is the way that they pile the scrapeoff in gigantic mounds that narrow everything to one lane just wide enough to get a car through, if that. we're not used to being "shoved in a hole" with no visibility like it was a WW1 trench. you guys really ought to come over here and teach snow removal crews how YOU do it.
and before you ask, no. no chains, and some states make studded tires illegal (Maryland, for example). regs and how stuff's done changes with every community, let alone each state.
-
in Rhode Island, an elementary school had a roof collapse, tho no one was in the building and was only over one classroom i think; but there have been alot of roof collapses from all the weight of the snow and it not melting between storms...
literally every week since xmas has had a major storm here in the northeast US, and about a foot of snow with each one except maybe one or two... Providence has had like 3 feet of snow in the last 5 weeks, but other cities has had more... New York City has had 4 and a half feet... many cities have set all-time record highs for snowfall totals for january...
it has been a rough winter in this area, and many major cities with millions of people in this area have been hit hard...
and another storm due in on saturday! lol
-
speaking of Australia - they just had a major cyclone (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Cyclone-Yasi-Australia-Braced-For-Huge-Storm-With-Queensland-Expected-To-Be-Worst-Hit/Article/201102115920996?lid=ARTICLE_15920996_Cyclone_Yasi%3A_Australia_Braced_For_Huge_Storm_With_Queensland_Expected_To_Be_Worst_Hit&lpos=World_News_Top_Stories_Header_4) (hurricane to us folk lol) slam into them; no fatalities but major widespread damage and flooding... they were just barely recovering from the latest major floods and other devastation...
in the US, the last storm from just a few days ago (http://www.latimes.com/news/la-na-winter-storm-20110203,0,7147839.story?track=rss) affected like 2/3s of the entire US...
-
:funny ..well seems we will get another night of VERY cold weather ...for us anyway ..
The houses here aren't built for this cold, it got like -14 last night(with wind chill) ...some of the windows had ice on the INSIDE and outside...lol
We are not used to this cold ....gonna be 6 degrees tonite..
EL Paso is going a bit nutz, water pipes breaking, power plant lost most of its generators and they had to do rolling blackouts...etc..
-
For the desert, this is WAY below average, even for this time of year. At noon it was 36 degrees. I actually had to warm up my car this morning, I've never done that before!
-
Dallas is shut down, no one is on the roads, there is ice everywhere, and more snow tonight.....
School and work has been canceled for 3 days going on 4....
-
a total of 14 roof collapses here in RI alone from the weight of all the snow and ice...
-
700 accidents because of ice, 3 were fatal.
-
strangely enough, im actually quite well upto date with whats happening around dallas metro area too, fort worth to be specific...
being a fan of texas country / outlaw / southern rock I listen to a radio station (kfwr 95.9 the ranch) from there most of the time when im online.
-
Just a few pics from my neighborhood. This is before tomorrow's storm, heh. The damn plows also smacked into the back of our Explorer, cracking the hatchback - and they seem to have no problem with burying other people's cars. :bitch:
-
I plowed up couple piles about that size today.. without machines to help. I'm awesome like that. :dontcare:
-
that's what the towns look like around here. and I'm not suprised at the plows, either. how come the township/borough/city trucks are always driven by Bleeps?
-
that's what the towns look like around here. and I'm not suprised at the plows, either. how come the township/borough/city trucks are always driven by Bleeps?
This wasn't the city plow, they don't even come near our street anymore (they wouldn't fit, lol); the crack in the Explorer's hatchback was caused by the privately-owned plow guy who's employed by our landlady. It's a miracle it was just a crack, considering that it was right in the middle of the damn thing, lol. (Pic attached.)
-
February 6, 1978 - the "Great Blizzard of '78" (http://www.weather.com/blog/weather/8_10972.html) struck the Northeast, with southern New England especially hard hit... Boston received 27.1 inches of snow by the time the storm ended...
-
gimme a sec and I can find Vintage pics of that. I look at that now, and go "holy CRAP that's deep" i think we might have gotten 36 inches then.
-
Another winter storm in dallas next tuesday night
-
We've got 30" of snow and more is on it's way. :bitch:
-
We've got 30" of snow and more is on it's way. :bitch:
My mother seems to think it's her fault, that it's a curse she brings with her wherever she moves. When we lived in SoCal, we had conditions like "worst drought ever", "hottest summer ever", "most rain ever", "biggest wildfires ever", so on. Here, we still get "hottest summer ever", but we also get "coldest winter ever", "biggest blizzard ever", and "most snowfall ever", that sort of thing. *chuckles*
-
at long last!
the next week and a half - no storms coming my way :yay:
so far... keeping fingers crossed
finally, a long stretch of quiet weather lol
-
mmh, itll be -25'f here by weekend, or supposedly.
-
You sure it's -25'F and not -25'C..? :lostit:
-
You sure it's -25'F and not -25'C..? :lostit:
yeah i got em mixed but thats how it goes when you gotta keep using two different measurement systems...
-
Just stick to metrics.. That's what civilized people use. :D
-
unless they're Americans :P
-
unless they're Americans :P
Bah. You can keep your fancy metric system. :P
-
Fancy? It's merely logical system.. Yes, for once, the french came up with something useful.
-
it's not fancy, it's simple...and that confuses the crap out of some people. something to think about...it took britain how long to decimalise their currency? it's practically a trope :P
-
February 9, 1870 - President Grant signed a measure establishing the Federal Meteorological Service, eventually becoming the National Weather Service...
-
-13F.. :(
-
February 14, 1940 - the "St. Valentine's Day Storm" paralyzed Boston and the rest of New England with over a foot of snow and very high winds...
-
make that -22F with windchill.. >.<
-
Cold weather and snow are comming to Bulgaria
-
And for a damn change England is getting warmer!
-
You guys are in the middle of the bloody warm Golf-current!of course it gets warmer there..
-
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
27oC, 75oF in Dallas for week!
-
You guys are in the middle of the bloody warm Golf-current!of course it gets warmer there..
Still the stupid rain makes up for it :(
-
somebody didn't tell Lionus that the British isles are under a perpetual raincloud. it still amazes me to see picutes of a British location with mostly sunny or even clear skies.
-
I have a friend who's touring Russia (in the winter, not a smart move, lol), and I told him if he wanted to enjoy a change of scenery and freeze his ass off at the same time, he could always have come to me. *grin*
-
-28F. at night we had -31F at one point.
-
yikes - that sucks!
here in Providence, the high temp today should get to a balmy 51f (11c) today - warmest it has been for months lol
but by the weekend, it should get right back to cold winter...
-
but by the weekend, it should get right back to cold winter...
Dammit, Jimmy, don't ruin it!
-
it's already on schedule, guys. sorry. it's gonna warm up enough to expose all the ice, and then promptly freeze solid again.
-
-33'f last night and prolly hitting -40'f tonite but remains to be seen.
-
yeah, snow. ill post a few more later. :P
(http://stupidfusion.com/kuvia/luntaperkele.jpg)
-
see? there's a pretty side to snow. I think I've got a few pics like that.
-
Don't make me take pics of my car etc.. :P
-
Still nice and warm, 20 degrees above normal here in Texas, everyone should move here. the weather rarely gets below 30.
-
Welp, so much for the early meltoff - it is now snowing in the Merrimack Valley. Oi. :bitch:
-
oy, did we get hit bad this morning. a couple-three inches overnight, and temperatures hovering at freezing means perfectly wet heavy snow, a small crust of ice, and, due to a combination of that and it being a Political Holiday, no plows on the road (besides the interstate), other than some token swipes, untill nearly 7 AM
-
March 15, 1993 - 69 daily low temperature records were broken over the eastern U.S. as cold air persisted behind the "Blizzard of '93." Fort Myers, Florida shivered at 39?F...
-
you mean the one where, right after graduating, and before starting college, I was trapped for 7-8 days in the house with no power, no light, and no heat except a gas stove? it took the morons 10 days to realize that the power was out 'cause the farmers all dug up their generators, and they thought nothing was wrong.
-
...well, at least the snow is going away. Mostly. (Though my mother came in and told me there's the possibility of snow in Boston?)
-
IT'S SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
and now, of course, it'll get bitter cold again...as one last pot shot.
-
ok so it hasnt snowed here in the last handful of weeks and just last weekend was about 60f (15.5c) and all the snow has melted and 2-4" of snow isnt much...
but seriously?? winter needs to get the frack out of here! :bitch:
-
it's soo evil over here in Michigan... ice is everywhere around my house... so freaking slick...
also got quite a few inches up north...
the only thing I like about it is... the college campus is closed cause of it.
-
Meh, I would have thought the people in Michigan wouldn't care...just get out some cleets and go with the flow...
-
I'm probably the only person in New England who went "WTF?" when it started snowing on the 21st. Yeah, happy spring everybody...
-
Meh, I would have thought the people in Michigan wouldn't care...just get out some cleets and go with the flow...
The Ice flow that is!
-
Quit bitching. We still have 2'1 of snow around.. :lostit:  :bitch:
-
LOL It is over 85 F, 30 C here in Texas!
-
And a comfy 18C in England! :dance
-
it was so nice to wake up this morning and see no snow on the ground (except a coating on the grassy areas)...
ha ha, winter - take that! :D
-
Woke up this morning and went running... In short shorts and a muscle shirt.
-
it was so nice to wake up this morning and see no snow on the ground (except a coating on the grassy areas)...
The only snow I can see from my bedroom window looking up the street are the frozen puddle of all that's left of the pile in front of our house, and the stubbornly-clinging pile (now down to about a foot or two) around the telephone pole on the other side of the four-plex next door. Funny thing is, we got a light dusting of it yesterday, heh.
It'll be nice to go out again, so many places to see, so much to do...
-
thank god we have sunshine an 15 degrees celsius. Its good to have spring.
-
-5'C at the moment, 66cm of snow. :bitch:
-
23 degrees celsius here :yay:
-
add another grumble. February moved back in and it's in the teens and single didgets overnight...when it should be 50+
-
March 31, 1998, unusual warmth prevailed across the Northeast... Boston, Massachusetts and Windsor Locks, Connecticut set new records for March, each hitting 89?F...
meanwhile 13 years later it is snowing heavily outside right now lol
fortunately the ground is a bit warmer this time of year than some weeks ago, so it is mostly melting as soon as it hits the pavement, and will change to rain in a few hours; so if anything does accumulate, it will wash away by the morning...
-
Just in time for the nor'easter next week, lol.
-
rain and sunshine, the snow is practically vanishing in front of my eyes. :yay: :dance
-
Yeah, they told us we were due for a nor'easter....where the hell was the nor'easter? Other than a slight rustle of wind and a bit of rain, we got squat.
-
i think we got it monday...the February moved back in for a while. i'm freezing my butt off in the morning!
-
April 10, 1996 - a strong coastal storm produced heavy snowfall in New England... the added snow made the winter of 1995-96 the snowiest on record for much of the region...
-
only 29cm/ ~1ft worth of snow left.. :yay: :dance Melt faster, dammit!
-
I'm so Fucking glad there isn't anymore snow for a while here in NC :)
-
May 16, 1997 - Sioux Falls, South Dakota rose from a record daily low of 33?F at 5:15am to a record-tying high of 91?F at 2:35pm...
-
Meh...it's finally a bit sunny outside here...and it's been raining the last two weeks :(
-
I had a very late season cold front come through this past weekend brought torrential rainfall alot of lightning and 72mph sustained wind gusts and i was out driving in it no thanks to my brother
-
Rain...
-
10-day forecast for me says showers straight through until next monday lol
-
It's very warm... more than i wanted and expected... fervor... maybe almoast around 28-30C :duh:
-
we've had some rain for couple days. suddenly we jumped from early spring to early summer.
-
May 30, 1987 - 18 cities across the eastern U.S. continued to experience record heat, including Newark, New Jersey at 98?F and Baltimore, Maryland at 97?F...
-
June 1 2011 Hurricane season starts. Low pressure system moving across the state of FL from northeast to southwest big mass of heavy rain
-
major tstorms in the Northeast US yesterday afternoon and evening with a few tornadoes in western Massachusetts, not too far from me...
even Providence county in Rhode Island has a tornado warning around 5pm which is really rare...

bah. We had 113.5F today x.x
-
I love swimming :) Which is a good way to cool off :D
-
I hate you, and it's important that you know it. :P
-
just heard on the radio in the car than the anglian area and the south east and west of england are in for a drought, so now the governments gonna re instate that hosepipe bann again...oh joy :roll
-
I hate you, and it's important that you know it. :P
No you don't :D :angel
-
Weather discussion huh? Hm. I only have one thing to say about that:
"The weather will continue to change on and off for a long, long time."
-
I wish the weather here would make up its mind.
-
Weather discussion huh? Hm. I only have one thing to say about that:
"The weather will continue to change on and off for a long, long time."
That sounds an awful lot like the late great George Carlin :P

Okay I've lived in Arizona for 14 years and this was by far one of the craziest dust storms I've ever seen.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43650426/ns/weather/?GT1=43001
-
86F inside 24/7.. :bitch: :banghead:
-
I loathe the July/August weather here in Ohio...particularly in the late afternoon. Hazy, humid as F*CK and oppressively hot.
After 7, though...really nice. That's when I get my exercise in ;)
-
oppressively hot
:funny :uberlol: Ohio is oppressively hot? You wouldn't last five minutes in Arizona.
Current conditions where I'm at right now in the screenshot - and that's not even close to the worst of it. Hottest day of the year so far was 118.
-
ya but with no humidity, thats not bad at all :P
-

95 w/ 89% humidity in a hazy city feels like 195+ it's so much worse than dry heat.
-
My area received 5.5 inches of rain just yesterday and thats near the monthly rainfall total just 2 inches shy. My backyard is still drying out looked like a lake yesterday
-
July 10, 1913 - a temperature of 134f (57c) was reported in Death Valley, California, the highest reading ever for North America...
-
My area received 5.5 inches of rain just yesterday and thats near the monthly rainfall total just 2 inches shy. My backyard is still drying out looked like a lake yesterday
That was the whole month of April here in Columbus...something like 17 inches of rainfall and rained 23 out of 30 days. I love rain so I was happy but my tennis season was messed the hell up cause of all the rainfall
-
I would kill for some rain right now. We're in the middle of the monsoon season and the weather man keeps promising rain but all we're getting is dust storms (at least where I live) :banghead:
-
I'd love me some rain too. average temps in my apartment are around 86F x.x
-
the classic florida "clockwork" rains have once again returned
nice because we havnt had much all spring, but now its annoying considering i have to coax 6 pitbulls to go out in it to do their busness.... they no like the rain.
-
It's not so bad here. 20?C(68?F) and it's been raining all night.
But humid as hell at 99%.
-
July 21, 1983 - Vostok, Antarctica dropped to -129f, the coldest temperature recorded anywhere in the world...
meanwhile today here in Rhode Island, it is 95f with a heat index of 105f and tomorrow should be around 100f with a heat index of over 110f...
stupid humidity...
actually most of the US is up over 90f today and tomorrow, and alot of places over 100f... summer is on!
-
Yep, here it's 95 with a HI of 115...
-
London ON, Canada - 39 C
+ air is so humid I can barely breathe ... way too hot for my taste
-
There is no such thing as perfect weather in Arizona. Summer months are way too hot and then winter comes and it gets too cold...
Right now I'm sitting at 104 (F)...that's actually considered not bad around here...
-
throw in another 3 digit temp reading I had 101!
-
Heat Index of 113 and I had soccer training! -BBBBBAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRFFFFFFFFFF-
-
it is 103f right now in Providence, RI with the humidity the heat index is 118f...
this is just stupid lol
-
yeah.. summers get hotter and winters get colder.. World is definitely going to hell in a handbasket. at this rate, we can't tell the difference between summer and hell, so it's all good. :funny
-
stupid damn summer...
*grumble grumble*
-
ill trade ya jimmy...
-

New York, NY: Central Park topped out at 104 degrees. Second hottest temperature on record. Hottest temperature since 1977.

Washington, DC: No daily record high set. However, peak heat index of 121 degrees.
Hartford, CT: New all-time record high of 103 degrees.
heat indexes around this area of the country were just incredible... even right now at 845pm, it is still really hot in most of the US...
-
I've had a nice day hovering around the 63?F mark with clouds and wind.
-
Well, I suppose it could always be worse........saw this on FB the other day and it kinda puts things in perspective. I was going to complain about how hot it is... then I realized that at least: 1.) it isn't 109 degrees; 2.) I'm not 5,700 miles from home; 3.) I'm not dressed in a full ACU uniform and helmet and carrying 70+ lbs.; and 4.) there is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today! Thanks to all who serve.
-
August 1, 1983 - a thunderstorm at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland produced a wind gust to 149 mph; Air Force One landed ten minutes earlier with President Reagan onboard...
-
Here in Texas it's so dry, trees fight over dogs, and the catfish have ticks.
-
Here in Texas it's so dry, trees fight over dogs, and the catfish have ticks.
:funny you sir get a cookie.
Arizona's got a heat advisory going on right now for the Phoenix Metro area. Right now it's sitting at 112 where I'm at...
-
Yea, Fire Hydrants also fight over dogs because hundreds are being flushed daily :bitch:
No wonder we are in a water crisis stage 2 water restriction.
-
Okay I'm gonna change the political subject back to weather:
Today in Arizona:

Okay I'm gonna change the political subject back to weather:
thank you...
*offtopic cleared*
guys, please try and remain ontopic... thx
August 3, 1970 - Corpus Christi, Texas received the full brunt of Hurricane Celia as sustained winds of 125 mph and a peak gust to 161 mph caused severe damage in the city...
-
It's been bearable here lately! I had to get up and go top soccer at 5 in the morning and it was 70 :eek and tonight at 5 it was 83 :eek
-
I live in Oklahoma City. We've been getting 100+ for quite some time. Today was amazing because some rain passed through and kicked it down into the 90's. Surprising how good it felt just to be below 100 during the day. :)
-
There are cloud seeding talks for the Dallas Fort Worth area, meaning creating rainclouds... We need it.
-
no doubt - the drought going on in texas is really severe and one of the worst in a long time...
also, hasnt it been something like 40 consecutive days with temps over 100 degrees?
-
38 days, record is 42, looks like a record breaking year.
-
You know there were talks about cooling off the entire globe by seeding clouds????
Anyways you poor texans....I hate it for you guys!!!!
(DAMNIT I can't spell tonight that's three times I've spelled guys wrong and corrected myself...oops make that 4)
-
Oklahoma doesn't have it too much better. ARGH so sick of this heat. It definitely doesn't help that the AC at my work is...well, unreliable is a polite phrase, but it works I guess...

Hurricane Irene is forcast to strike somewhere along the atlantic coastline by this weekend just not sure where exactly yet or how strong it will be
-
no matter how close it gets, i STILL have to clean this damn yard up in case it DOES hit the Jax area :argh:

the sky is falling!!! RUUUUUUUN!!!

latest info is showing that where i am (Rhode Island) will be hit by Hurricane Irene on Sunday evening...
if it holds up, i will most definitely be having a hurricane party here at the house! :D :drink2: :drink3: :drink:
those are always fun - a handful of people, a bunch of booze, a bunch of food; and if we lose power than we'll play card games or board games or whatever and when drunken, run around outside in the streets in the soaking rain lol

If I were Irene I would head straight for Texas....Not because I want to see it destroyed, but they've had enough of the drought :P

I might have hit you... BUT Perry is an idiot...
-
I might have hit you... BUT Perry is an idiot...
Before Jimmy kills me ( ;)) I concur! I remember back when Hurricane Ike hit we all got off work and school (In Ohio!) for wind damage
-
latest info shows a forecasted track for Hurricane Irene to make a direct hit here around 2am Monday morning as a category 1 storm with wind speeds of 80mph...
of course, anything could change before then...
-
irene was down to a cat 1 at 11pm advisory but now its back to a cat 3 in less than 12 hours thats what a define as unpredictable. Hopefully it wont pull an Andrew where it surges up just before landfall
-
I might have hit you... BUT Perry is an idiot...
LOL Truth is I'm just sick of seeing the Texas Drought on the news...a lot of rain would do you guys some good...minus the gail force winds etc.
-
latest info has the storm about 250 miles southwest of Rhode Island at 8am Sunday with winds of 100mph... the track has the eye of the storm going directly over Providence, RI (my city) during the evening hours (prolly around or just before 8pm or so)...
theyre already saying this storm could be one of the biggest and most major events we've had in decades...
good times!

Lol poor Jimmy...my cousin goes to college at PC tho ;)
-
ill let you know how bad it looks when its off my damn coast this afternoon jimmy ;)
(ill post some pics if i can, since apparently its just gonna brush the Jacksonville area)
-
global warming I tells ya!
-
well the latest forecasted track has the hurricane moving a little more west of where i am, almost directly over new york city... still should have sustained winds of about 100mph and the worst of it should be from sunday late morning til monday morning...
that still sucks for me since the most powerful section of a hurricane is on its eastern side, and it also sucks hardcore for new york city... all those buildings in the city will act like wind tunnels and no doubt every city across the northeast (nyc, hartford, providence, boston, etc) will likely all lose power, not to mention widespread damage...
every meterorologist on every station i have been watching have all been saying this will be a major significant threat, the storm will be huge in size, and this area of the country hasnt seen an event like this in decades... im starting to become worried to be honest... i hope theyre over-dramatizing it...
im still having a hurricane party tho lol
-
Oh crap, the heat is back. temp is back up in 80-85 range again.
And I was hoping for the summer to be over :(
-
The humidity's risen sharply in the last two days - we've had thundershowers and such too. Plus, we have Irene headed in our direction; it should hit the Massachusetts coast by Sunday-ish. I live inland, but the Merrimack River is about a mile or so from the house, so it's possible any flooding there might affect us too.
-
Oh crap, the heat is back. temp is back up in 80-85 range again.
And I was hoping for the summer to be over :(
Me too. Super-humid here as well. I prefer temperatures in the 18-20 degree range (celsius). Not too hot, not too cold. Winters i'm perfectly fine if it dips below 0, but it should not be too far under zero.
-
good news, irene has weakened but will still be a cat 2 when she sideswipes the carolina coastline and will be a cat 1 by the time it gets new the new england region
-
People are already flocking to the grocery store....and we're pretty far inland...
-
been getting hit by outer bands off and on all day long, be prepared guys, shes a MEAN bitch.
i wish i would have taken a camera with me to jacksonville beach when she was right off the coast... scarily beautiful sight.

Hurricane Warning now in effect...
all 5 boroughs of New York City have a mandatory evacuation, thats the first time thats ever happened...
quote from Weather.com -
Extreme, destructive impacts are expected through the weekend in eastern portions of the Mid-Atlantic and New England. Hurricane warnings are posted as far north as New England, including New York City and Long Island. Those destructive impacts include a significant water level rise (surge and wave action), excessive rainfall and damaging winds.
* The threat level is "EXTREME" along the East Coast from eastern North Carolina to New England.
* Irene is a hurricane that poses an extraordinary threat and is one that no one has yet experienced in North Carolina to the mid-Atlantic to the Northeast and New England. This includes Norfolk, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Hartford, and Boston. * This hurricane has the potential to produce flooding rains, high winds, downed trees (on houses, cars, power lines) and widespread power outages. Significant impacts along the immediate coast include high waves, surge and beach erosion.
* Timing: Irene will make its closest approach to North Carolina through Saturday. Northeast U.S. impacts would be Saturday night through early Monday.
Local Weather Alert
Hurricane Warning for Southeast Providence, RI
Issued by The National Weather Service
Providence, RI
Fri, Aug 26, 2011, 11:58 PM EDT
... HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...
... PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
HURRICANE IRENE IS MOVING TO THE NORTH NORTHEAST AND WILL AFFECT SOUTHERN ENGLAND SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY. BASED ON THE CURRENT FORECAST TRACK... PEOPLE IN SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND SHOULD PREPARE FOR A PERIOD OF STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS... HEAVY RAINFALL AND THE LIKELIHOOD FOR COASTAL FLOODING.
HURRICANE FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED ALONG THE SOUTH COAST OF RHODE ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED FOR THE REMAINDER OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. THESE WIND SPEEDS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE WIDESPREAD DAMAGE WITH DOWNED TREES AND POWER OUTAGES.
THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS FOR 5 TO 10 INCHES OF RAINFALL ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS ACROSS THE INTERIOR... PARTICULARLY THE EAST SLOPES OF THE BERKSHIRES. THEREFORE A FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. SEE LATEST FORECAST FOR LATEST INFORMATION. LISTEN FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS FOR YOUR LOCATION... AND BE READY TO ACT IF FLOODING RAINS OCCUR.
... STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE... IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE THE EXACT HEIGHTS OF COMBINED STORM SURGE AND TIDE WATERS FOR SPECIFIC LOCATIONS WITHIN THE FORECAST AREA. MUCH DEPENDS ON THE PRECISE SIZE... INTENSITY... TRACK AND TIMING OF IRENE. PRELIMINARY EXPECTATIONS FOR THE SOUTH COAST ARE FOR STORM SURGE VALUES OF 4 TO 8 FEET WITH HIGHEST VALUES IN THE UPPER REACHES OF NARRAGANSETT AND BUZZARDS BAYS. THIS COULD TRANSLATE TO WATER LEVELS OF 3 TO 5 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL.
-
To the fallout shelter?
-
Wow, stay safe guys on that side of the country!!!!
-
New England area has had alot of rain from the past few months that the ground wont be able to absorb much. Flooding will be a major issue as well as tree falling over since they dont have nothing but mud to cling to. Going to be alot of power outages
-
https://www.progress-energy.com/app/outagemaps/carolinas.aspx
This is the power outage map i found compliments of progress energy in North Carolina
-
You know it's a bad storm when the MOUTNAINS of NC see power outtages...*blinks*
They didn't even get a drop of rain...
-
My whole family lives in Connecticut so... :(
:cancelled:
Lol just wanted to use that one...
-
Its official irene is now a tropical storm with 60mph winds and now moving NNE at 26mph
-
i just got off the phone with my grandparents who live just outside of philadelphia, all is well, they only lost power for a few hours and the big tree that me and my cousins used to climb around on and build our treehouses on when we were kids got uprooted :(
so now its firewood, and their basement now has about a foot of water in it, but thats nothing outside the ordinary... damn thing ALWAYS floods after snow or heavy rain.
LESS can be said for the BRAND NEW subdivision that was build about 1/6th of a mile down the road (wich is also downhill btw) that area is now FLOODED with about 2 feet of water. :funny
all i can say is: "thats what you f*ckers GET for building your damn cheap a$$ cookie cutter houses on my great grandfathers old farmland!!!"
never mess with old Irish farmland.
-
ya the storm wasnt too much a big deal where i am either... major winds, but not too much rain...
alot of dry air worked itself into the storm and it stopped raining here around noon... the winds, tho, pretty hardcore...
the streets are covered with leaves and branches around here, and all over this state are many many trees down... we never did lose power (in downtown Providence) but pretty much the rest of the state is out of power... winds will be strong and intense for at least a few more hours so we may still lose power but i hope not...
still having the hurricane party, since noon here, a handful of friends and a bunch of booze - but no hurricane lol
ah well, i guess we'll be venturing downtown in a little while... alot of bars and restaurants are opening up later...
-
If I would be Obama I'd take any usual hurricane and would push it up in the media as a really really big natural desaster.
Then after my crisis management works everyone will like me again :)
..but I'm not Obama of course..

August 29, 2005 - Hurricane Katrina made landfall as a strong Category 3 storm in southeast Louisiana... it was the costliest and one of the five deadliest hurricanes in the US...
-
September 2, 1935 - the small but extremely intense "Labor Day Hurricane" hit the Florida Keys producing the lowest barometric pressure ever recorded in the US and wind gusts to 200 mph...
-
September 12, 1960 - Hurricane Donna made landfall on central Long Island. This was the first hurricane known to affect every point along the East Coast, from the Florida Keys to Maine.

This is crazy. We want a WHITE Christmas. Here we are, ten days away, and the high temperatures are in the 50s. I thought I lived in New England - not southern California! And to top it off - MORE RAIN! Where the feth's the snow?!
-
Well, to be honest, we don't have much either and it's still above zero centigrade.. :idk: If old pattern is still true, before christmas eve, temps will drop like cows tail and THEN we will get couple feets worth.. or more.. of snow. :P
-
Just started snowing here...

December 16, 1811 - one of the strongest earthquakes in U.S. history hit the region around New Madrid, Missouri. Church bells rang as far away as Washington, D.C.

Got back to my car this morning after work, -7oC. I don't think I've ever seen it get this cold in this part of the country before.
Mind you, it's reaching -30oC in other parts of Europe, so I don't think we can really complain.
-
~120 miles further north from me, -40F/-40C was measured..
-
It's -13C here. It's a comfortable temperature. Just the way I like it.

This winter has been abnormally warm for AZ. For the last month it's been around the high 60s - low 70s during the day. Nights are still kind of brutal (by desert rat standards that is :P ; low 40s). Last winter was hell - high 20s - low 30s at night and mostly around the 50s during the day.
-
-31F/-35C  and I'm out of cofffee and milk

After a non-existent winter here in Central Ohio, spring spawned spectacularly today! It's 80 degrees and already has that heavy, humid feeling Ohio summers have.
:biatch:
As nice as the blue sky is, I hate humidity. It gives me the creeps.

Spring has arrived here too the Daffys are out as it were. :dance

After a non-existent winter here
lol yeh this was the best winter ever! it snowed like twice here in RI lol

lol ya thats the only thing about summer im not much a fan of... last summer was as brutal as last winter as far as ridiculously hot weather, we hit over 100 several times here...
hopefully this summer will be more kind...
-
It's 81 degree's here in Arizona and I'm loving it. This year's allergy season has been brutal here though.

Ohio is the worst kind of everything - arid except for April, bitterly cold and windy all winter (usually) cause it's so flat but never any snow, and summers that just make you want to melt into a puddle everytime you step out of the AC. My family all live in Hartford (I'm a transplanted Nutmegger :P) and it gets pretty hot in the cities especially in New England, but Ohio - wow - I can't even imagine what Georgia or something is like.
It's 81 degree's here in Arizona and I'm loving it. This year's allergy season has been brutal here though.
That's the worst - allergies just suck.

March 2012 goes down on record as being the warmest March ever for the US, with a period of record going back to the late 1800s...
15000 record highs broken...
hundreds were all-time March record highs...
21 of them were night-time temperatures that broke the daytime high temp record...
the average temp for the US day and night topped the 20th century March average by 9 degrees... thats the second largest monthly departure from average on record, behind January 2006...
the first 3 months of 2012 are the warmest on record so far...

Move to Northern Ireland, we never have hosepipe bans! :D
The UK weather is so messed up, I've had the heating on during the day and it is the middle of May!!!!!!

Or Wales, no hosepipe bans here either.
As far as I know it's only the south east of England that's got the bans in force.

Fastest Warming U.S. States (http://www.weather.com/news/climate-states-20120619?onepage=yes)
A new report from Climate Central, a research and public outreach program, says global warming is causing some states to heat up faster than others.
The group analyzed temperature increased over the past 100 years and highlighted the ten states that saw the highest temperature increase.
Climate Central suggests the warming is caused partly by natural climate changes and atmospheric aerosoles (which block solar radiation).
Scientists say the pace of warming increased dramatically in the 1970's. That mirrors the time frame when the effect of greenhouse gases began to become widespread.
Rhode Island is listed as the fastest warming state in the US according to this report, a .339 degree (Fahrenheit) increase each decade since 1912...

Most of those areas on the East Coast that are warmer are heavily urbanized. If you think about it, most of Rhode Island is a city, so as a state it's no wonder why it's heating up so much.
-
what the heck? the temperature and heat index increases as the late afternoon progresses? shouldnt it be decreasing? lol

The hottest time of day is late afternoon, not noon. It takes time to heat things up, so as long as the sun is in the sky it heats and continues heating. Once it is low enough in the horizon, the strength of its rays is dissipated by the amount of atmosphere they have to pass through, and that's when the actual cooling begins.

Ah Jimmy, quit bitching and just take an Exeter class on a run through the Delta Quadrant with Galaxy Charts. :P
-
if a New Englander... it is our nature to complain about the weather every day all year round lol :P
-
its gonna be hotter than they thought yesterday... New York City, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Hartford, Providence - all expected to hit 100f today...
with the high humidity and high dew points, heat indexes will be around 105 - 110f...
i have a feeling i wont be leaving my apartment, and my a/c will be cranked continuously lol

Hurricane Sandy Heading For New England (http://www.golocalprov.com/news/breaking-hurricane-sandy-heading-for-new-england/)
(from article)
It's been well over a year since the leftovers of Hurricane Irene slammed into our area causing general havoc including massive power outages. That was August 28, 2011. Since then there has been little to get worked up over weather-wise, a couple of so-so snowstorms last winter, a few severe thunderstorms and small tornadoes here and there but thankfully no major, widespread weather disasters. In fact, during the past year or so, we have been living in relative ?weather heaven? with an unusual amount of sunny, warm days during each of our past four seasons.
Hurricane Sandy: Another "Perfect Storm"?
Now, because of the projections of a few of the many weather prediction mathematical models, there is rampant speculation that New England is about to be hit by a major storm perhaps of the ?Perfect Storm? ilk that struck around Halloween in 1991. Right now Hurricane Sandy, a Category 1 hurricane, is a long way away, located south of Jamaica in the Caribbean about 1700 miles to our south. During the next couple of days, it will move over Cuba and into the Bahamas, threatening parts of southern and eastern Florida with hurricane force winds. After that, it is expected to continue to move northward ? and this is where it gets sticky. Some data indicates it will move more eastward, away from the U.S. mainland but other just as reliable data is forecasting the storm to gradually lose its tropical characteristics and morph into a massive storm that will turn up the east coast, the center of which could move directly over Southern New England. If that happens, and it is a BIG IF, it would be here early next week. Since the storm would be so large it could well extend over several days, say from Monday through Wednesday. With so much uncertainty in the future track of the storm, it is impossible at this time to fill in any of the details such as how much wind, how much rain, how much, if any, flooding, etc.
The bottom line is that we still have plenty of time to watch, prepare and calculate but, at least, the potential is there.

I'm currently enjoying the first snowfall of the season. :-)
-
why do i have a sinking feeling we're so screwed?
this storm is gearing up to be of literal epic proportions, indeed one for the history books... it is literally what everyone is talking about around my area...
somehow methinks this entire area of the US northeast coast (i am in Providence, Rhode Island but this would also be including places like Boston, Hartford, New York City, Philadelphia, Newark, Atlantic City, Baltimore, Washington DC, etc etc)
the media is all the rage on this one - theyre saying things are linging up atmospherically to make this a very major event...
not so much a hurricane-5 but just a huge motherfucking storm with everything lined up perfectly to make it a major thing for this entire area of the country...
if anyone has heard of what was called "The Perfect Storm" we got nailed by in 1991 (they even made a movie of it lol) theyre saying this will be even stronger and bigger than that...
every station is saying this will be a "serious threat" for all the major cities of this area of the US...
and to take this very seriously as a result...
it is taking a "worst-case" scenario where i am... the upper right-hand quadrant of any storm moving north is the worst place to be :(
not just me - but Boston, New York City, Hartford - we're all gonna get mutherfuckin nailed by this one...
and the size of the storm will be massive so it will be a two or three day event for this entire area of where i live... would be easier if it was a one-day storm but it is to be so massive in size and slow down, it is gonna hang out here for a while...
theyre projecting the cost of possible damage in the billions all over this area!
i might be offline for a while lol i hope not tho, but i am expecting i may be... :(
bc's modder of the month polls may be late this month lol

Sandy? Shit, that's my Cats name!

my cat's name is Sam! lol
but yeah seriously - this storm is gonna be rather bad for millions of people (literally, millions) - right in this area of the country i live in and major cities right nearby including my own...

I keep on thinking this could happen to New York, maybe not quite like this:
Or maybe this storm dislikes the upcoming presidential election?

This makes me happy I live in a meteorologically stable area.
-
Part of me wonders if we'll end up getting another "white Halloween" like we did after that nor'easter last year. Supposedly the weather is worse here than it is up there - I lived in the Merrimack Valley until May, and I presently live in the South Shore. Whenever my grandfather came down here to visit his dad (he lives about two blocks or so from the house we live in now), whenever we got...an inch or so at home, he said it was more here.
Of course, that "white Halloween" also came with several hours without power. Not inclined to repeat THAT!
-
Just snowed for 24 hrs in Switzerland. That's pretty unusual for octobre where I live.
Jimmy, how is it in Providence now? Just saw some satellite images. Hope you are okay
-
We've been getting snow in England and it's bitterly cold in the West Midlands where I am.
Hope you're doing alright JimmyB, I know it's a bit away from you but there was a New York Taxi Driver on Radio 4 this morning saying about how the city seemed deserted...it sounded really bleak!
-
Very cold here in NI too. I can see wet and windy, perhaps snowy, weather waiting out in the North Atlantic for north western parts of the UK.
Also I hope all those members on here that are directly or indirectly affected by hurricane sandy stay safe!
-
wow the wind is wild around here!! lol
not so much of heavy rains here yet, but the wind is intense!
the streets everywhere here in downtown Providence, Rhode Island are completely deserted - which is weird since it is usually gridlock! but there are a million people all walking around and about and having a fun time during the storm so far... with the roads empty, groups of friends are walking around and laughing and no doubt drunk and enjoying the intense winds... whenever a huge storm hits, tho, everyone takes to the streets - this is mostly a college city and thousands of college students live downtown so it is always a party-town lol
bars downtown are packed of course, i just went bar hopping a little bit around to have a beer here and a beer there and run into some friends here and there... back at home for just now...
ill be going back out in a bit to a friend's place a few blocks from here, a handful of us will gather there for alot of booze and board games and card games in case we do lose power...
so far local news is saying 16,000 people in my state of RI are without power already...
the worst of the storm isnt even here yet but we're getting wind gusts over 50mph; worst of it should be here shortly...
the storm is expected to bring heavy rains to Rhode Island between 2 and 9 pm, with the most intense downpours around 5 pm
Wind gusts of up to 80 to mph are possible along the South Coast, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has warned the main concern for Rhode Island will be this evening, when the storm surge coincides with a high tide around 8:23 pm. Officials warned to expect "significant damage."
some recent pics i grabbed from facebook and other sites so far...

here comes another one... like wtf seriously??
Nor'easter to Add to Post-Sandy Misery (http://www.weather.com/news/weather-winter/noreaster-post-sandy-20121105)
Tuesday night / Early Wed Morning
(http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/4830/mapspecnews26ltst4namus.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/820/mapspecnews26ltst4namus.jpg/)
- Low pressure intensifies near the coast of North Carolina
- Sustained northeast winds of at least 20 mph spread up the coast including the Jersey Shore, Long Island, and coastal New England at least as far north as Cape Cod by daybreak.
- Some coastal flooding is possible in the northern Outer Banks of N.C.
- Rain will also spread up the coast, including the Jersey shore. The heaviest rain Tuesday night will be in far eastern North Carolina (Outer Banks) and, perhaps, southeast Virginia.
Wednesday
(http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/4830/mapspecnews26ltst4namus.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/841/mapspecnews26ltst4namus.jpg/)
- Peak impact begins for Northeast, including Sandy-impacted areas
- Low pressure intensifies and moves slowly from off Outer Banks of N.C. to off Delmarva Peninsula/south Jersey shore by late afternoon.
- Sustained winds of at least 30 mph spread north from Delmarva Peninsula, Jersey shore, and eastern Long Island in the morning to eastern shore of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Wind gusts over 60 mph seem most likely from Cape Cod into Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and eastern Long Island. Occasional gusts over 50 mph are possible in New York City and Boston. Gusts along the Jersey shore should primarily be in the 40-50 mph range. Additional power outages are expected.
- Coastal flooding is expected at high tide, mainly along northern and northeast-facing beaches, but will be much lower than the magnitude of Sandy's coastal flooding.
- Heavy rain will soak the Delmarva Peninsula, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the New York City metro, spreading north into southern New England. These areas should expect to see at least 1 inch of rain during the day.
Wednesday Night / Thursday Morning
(http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/6875/mapspecnews28ltst4namus.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/703/mapspecnews28ltst4namus.jpg/)
- Impacts persist in the Northeast, including Sandy-impacted areas
- Low pressure stalls out temporarily off the Jersey shore and Long Island, then weakens overnight.
- Strongest winds continue from eastern Long Island to coastal Rhode Island and coastal Massachusetts, including Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, with occasional gusts over 60 mph still possible. Occasional gusts over 50 mph are still possible in New York City and Boston metros. Additional power outages are possible.
- Some coastal flooding is still expected, particularly at high tide along north and northeast-facing beaches, but may diminish along the Jersey shore as winds may turn more offshore. This coastal flood threat extends as far north as the eastern shore of Massachusetts.
- Areas of rain persist from coastal Maine to the Delmarva Peninsula.
- That said, accumulating snow is possible as far south as northern New Jersey and the Poconos into northern New England. Some wet snow may even fall over low elevations of eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware.
Thursday
(http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/2737/mapspecnews29ltst4namus.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/18/mapspecnews29ltst4namus.jpg/)
Low pressure weakens and slowly shifts east.
- Occasional gusts over 50 mph may persist in coastal southeast New England.
- Winds will be offshore in New Jersey and the Delmarva by Thursday morning, if not earlier. Occasional gusts over 40 mph are still expected in these areas. Lingering coastal flooding is possible in coastal southern New England and along the sound side of Long Island.
- Lingering areas of rain, with wet mountain snow, from the Catskills and Upstate New York into New England. Snow will mainly be early in the day.
-
apparently, theyve decided to now name winter storms as they do with hurricanes...
this one is being called "Winter Storm Athena"
heh lemme guess, the next one will be "Winter Storm Boomer" (lol sorry, had to :P)
fortunately, no major snow expected here where i am in Rhode Island, but somehow i think this area of the US can be in store for a very stormy winter...

i hate winter...

You should talk to my cousin Graham. He's up with the Canucks in the middle of nowhere. 3 days ago he had no snow at all. Since then so much snow has fallen he actually had to jump out of his bedroom window with a shovel so he could dig the snow that was blocking the door!

but where i am in the northeast US, there is a major storm that will be forming and everyone from Portland, Maine to Boston, Masssachusetts to Providence, Rhode Island (my city) to Hartford, Connecticut is gonna get nailed by this one all day Friday, Friday afternoon, Friday evening, overnight into Saturday morning...
a Blizzard Watch has just been issued... :(
i guess now im gonna form a blizzard party at my apartment and invite some friends over :dance :drink2: :drink3: :drink:
have a bunch of drinks, card games, and walk around downtown and play in the snow (which im sure there will be no cars on the road and a bunch of people all walking around having fun)

* Timing - light snow develops by Friday morning. Snow will increase intensity during Friday afternoon. The heaviest snow will occur Friday night into Saturday morning.
* Impacts - heavy snow and strong winds will bring the potential for blizzard conditions. The worst of the storm will be Friday night into Saturday morning. Snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour possible. Travel may become nearly impossible with blowing and drifting snow.

A Blizzard Watch means there is a potential for considerable falling and/or blowing snow with sustained winds or frequent gusts over 35 MPH and visibilities below 1/4 mile for at least 3 hours. White-out conditions will be possible, making travel very dangerous. Be prepared to alter any travel plans.
-
haha yeah Michigan is going to get hit Thursday night.
-
holy shit this is going to be an epic major storm... one for the record books indeed! this one is no joke and theyre saying will be worst than they have been thinking...
even New York City is under a Blizzard Warning and will get 12 to 18 inches of snow...
where i am in Providence, we should be getting 18 to 24 inches of snow...
i have some friends coming over tomorrow morning when it starts - plenty of booze, plenty of munchies, movies, etc - when the worst of it is hitting by late afternoon, we'll be going downtown to join in on all the other drunken people all walking around playing in the snow since there will be virtually no traffic i am sure... they are urging people to be off the roads by noon...
plus this is a major college city so there will be lots of kids from Brown, JWU, RISD, etc all out and about having fun as well i am sure... blizzards have a way of bringing people outside to play in the snow lol

Li; you know as well as I do that that's a bleep-pile of snow in the states.
-
yeah, bit like slight rain is a good reason for SoCal people to slow down by 20mph on highways.. :P
-
and so it begins... just started snowing a short bit ago, already becoming a bit steady and heavy and starting to build up on the sidewalks and such...
interesting to see the street so clear of cars (for the most part)...
should get crazy heavy in a few hours... ill take pics as it goes...
this is the view right outside of my apartment...

meh. I'm with Li, that's not much, and I've seen (and driven in) worse. at least it's the pretty snow.
-
2 feet of snow is not much?
lol ok
i am 6'4" and the shit is knee-deep for me still... im all set with winter lol
-
ouch,not fun to walk in
-
try 3ft+ when you're 5'5 tall.. The snow banks on the road are easily that high (5ft+) and I had to jump and wave so that the bus wouldn't go by without picking me up. :P so yeah, you have it easy.
-
what, Jimmy, you forgot he's from Scandanavia? that's a NORMAL snowfall for him, and even I don't think that's too unusual (I started and ended school in a Blizzard that was a lot worse).
-

Yeah, I've done that too. :P
-
Meh, you people act like you've never seen snow before :P
Here in Sweden, it gets so ridiculous with newspapers using big headlines such as "Chaotic snowfall" and "Extreme chaos". Sweden is pretty far north on the planet, snowfall should be pretty normal. Yet some people act like it's the end of the world, or caused by global warming.
1-2 ft of snow ain't too bad.
-
It is when moronic plow drivers turn it into six-foot walls that block your whole driveway and your front door, heh.
-
some places got over 40 inches of snow...
-
At least you're not North Carolina where one drop of snow and everyone rushes to the grocery stores for milk eggs and bread.....yeah, milk sandwiches for the whole family folks!! lol
-
People need to act more like us Michiganders...
-
some places got over 40 inches of snow...
in snow drifts, most likely. :P

No it was actual snowfall

That's EXACTLY how it was with the snow fall that happened here a few weeks ago. South Wales + Snow = Snow dusted South Wales where everyone panics and has milk sandwiches!
-
And as if it couldn't get any worse, it's started to rain here. So now the five-foot frozen walls outside my door will be frozen solid. Unless they melt because the temps are gonna go up to the upper 40s (that's Fahrenheit for you silly Celsians - I don't live on Mercury, lol).
-
Darkthunder; actually, Joshmaul is right. in residential neighborhoods and small towns, a hefty snowfall means you WILL be plowed in, take damage to your car if you were foolish enough to park in the street, or have your mailbox destroyed by over-enthusiastic guys clearing ditches. and in my experience, the Interstate/motorways get plowed first over everything else. 5 AM after a snowfall can be a hazardous driving experience on back roads.
as for southern folk panicking at one inch of snow? that's because, from my experience down here in Virginia Beach; everyone's on summer tires or dub rims and cops give you slowing tickets as well as speeding tickets. plus, a lot of bad weather tires are illegal to sell :P
-
To give you a sense: This was a picture my mom took on Saturday, looking out from my basement apartment. My door opens up into the driveway and parking lot of this little residential complex (I live in unit 1, below the main house where my parents live - the landlord lives down in 4, IIRC).

92F/33C.. toasty-ish. mostly because it's bit humid. :P
-
7F/-14C Still winter.
-
7F/-14C Still winter.
No kidding. Here I thought winter was almost over with. The ground was virtually barren. And then suddenly over night, *boom* 10 cm of snow, and -10C...
I'm not usually one to complain about winter, but it's getting rather tiresome :P
-
we had 99F here today. :P
-
It is 34F right now. O.o
-
I live five miles north of the tornado that just destroyed thousands of homes in Moore, Oklahoma. I have many friends in that area.
For those of you that pray, please do.
-
IIRC, the effect of climate change will be less but stronger hurricanes (and potentially other storms). So we have more nasty weather to look forward to.
-
Been out of power since Friday due to stupid Oklahoma weather. Bit pissed at the world at the moment. Currently on a generator because the lack of social contact has driven me insane.

Very interesting. I would have thought NYC would make the cut but I guess I should consider myself lucky. If anything Jimmy you can canoe your butt down here, bring all the booze with you, no sense in wasting precious resources :D
-
What a shocker, four of the cities on this list are in Florida - including the top three. I was so surprised, were you surprised? I was surprised.
-
bump!
so anyway, here in the entire northeastern US (i live in Rhode Island, Southern New England; and where Family Guy lives, in some part of this tiny state lol) and this entire section of the US has a good 10ish days ahead of sunny skies, comfortable humidity, perfect weather!
aaaanndd
i am on vacation beginning this Sunday the 10th and ending the next Sunday the 17th :yay:
ill prolly just chill in the house the entire of next week hanging with the Sam and eating tons of junk food and having more than a few bong hits and beers and watch a ton of bad tv and awesome documentaries all of next week lol :)
:drink3: :drink2: :drink: :smoke  :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:
i'll try to get outside and sun and things if i have a reason to go anywhere... i have yardwork to do, thats enough outside for me...

Man I'd kill for 70s and 80s. Here in Arizona the heat isn't even getting started...
-
hot is hot, true... everyone always says "but it's a dry heat", makes no difference...
it can get up into the 90s all summer here and a couple times hitting over 100 - but that plus thick gross humidity and high dew point to where the air just feels heavy and like walking thru water... that is no fun...

Oh I hear ya. I spent my summers in Upstate New York as a kid so I know what 85 degrees plus 90% humidity does lol
-
This is not typical for June in Arizona. A strange, clear liquid that I can't identify has been falling from the sky off and on. And the temperature isn't between 105 and 115.
-
wow - that is very unusually below normal temp range there...
-
well finally it is summer here...
-
It's gonna be 98 here on saturday. My room's air conditioner is already struggling with 90 today.
I'm gonna roast. Who wants some legs/thighs for dinner.
-
Mesa, AZ around 9:30 at night.
-
a dew point of 43 degrees and humidity of 18% certainly helps!
even still, anything around 100 is really hot no matter how dry...
around here, it may get close to 100 on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, but also adding in a dew point of like 70-73 degrees and a humidity level at or above 70% and that's just horrible lol

100 is a relatively cool day to us :icon_lol: That's the minimum temperature people generally need to feel like getting in the pool. The real complaining doesn't generally start until we pass 110.
On a side note, I really, really need to fix my car's air conditioner before the inevitable 120 day arrives.
